I dont think Cole had his best game.
Kane for me was excellent again.
Besides the obvious frustration of our defence, there were some real positives to build on tonight's performance. Cole was excellent in certain aspects I thought. Yes he struggled to hold the ball but that's not what he's about as we know. His workrate and running in behind with pace was a constant worry for Peterborough and I thought he was unfortunate not to gain a couple of assists to add to his goal.
Herbie is a quality footballer and ran the midfield. McAtee again was a real handful and shows quality and composure. Phillips is starting to get back to the player we know he can be making some great runs into the area but unfortunately he blazed a great chance over when he should've scored. Nevertheless encouraging. Once him and Luca find that match sharpness we will be a difficult side to contain.
The French kid at the back reminds me of early Mads Andersen and Andersen started to get to grips with things when Solbauer arrived in the January .
Lopata and Shepherd need to be loaned out next month , preferably to league two but that's not necessarily how it will turn out , a decent National League team going for promotion might be more realistic .
It sounds like from what the Rotherham fans were saying on their board that McCart is going to be recalled next month .
Here's the thing and to be honest I don't know why I'm bothering but Daniel Ayala has fallen out of favour at Rotherham it would seem .
Many on here will remember him from his Boro and Blackburn days where he was always a class act .
Vastly experienced and would really bring the French kid on in my opinion .
Championship defending at Rotherham United at 33 years of age isn't likely to be the best way of using that experience positively but league one defending in dare I say a winning team is a different thing altogether .
I thought it was an excellent game last night without a doubt the most entertaining of the season & the reason for me was that both teams did everything they could to try & win it, all four goals came about through defensive mistakes , the first one we should have cleared it & I actually think Roberts could have done better , the second one was once again down to weakness in central defence , to allow Harrris a free header when we had two defenders either side of him with neither putting in a challenge to win the ball was criminal but we are weak in that area & unless we do something about we will continue to get punished . Overall I thought we deserved to win with special mentions for Kane who once again showed his quality , Cole who worked his socks off & of course scored again plus McCatee who gave another tireless display , also I thought Collins deserves some credit for his approach to the game , even when we 2 goals up he kept the team driving forward & tactically showed some real nous , give him a couple of experienced defenders in january & we might stand a chance of the play offs , if he doesn"t get backed we will fail & it will not be down to him .
Yes de Gevigney continues to improve Animal. And would improve faster with an experienced defender alongside him. Ayala is a very good call especially since Roberts has been starting for Birmingham recently.
Last night, and I know it was only for a short period, but I thought Lopata did well, especially considering the type of game he was introduced into. I think he just needs experience alongside him as well.
Williams played well last night but he was so much better when he was moved to wing back.
Missed the game due to the big time difference - thanks for all the game comments chaps.
Sounds like it was an excellent game to watch.
Williams at last moved to wing back.
Replicate points currently on the board after 23 games over the second half of the season and for me 84 points will guarantee us a play off spot.
Disappointed to not finish the year in the top 6 but 4 points from 6 on the road is credible and with a game in hand over 4 teams above us and 2 over Blackpool below us and is it unbeaten in 7 league games means for me a positive end to 2023 for our beloved Barnsley FC.
Happy New Year all.
A point most would have taken before the game though tinged with disappointment with throwing away a two goal lead.
I was surprised Posh insisted on trying to play it out from the back first half. A few Third Division sides have been trying this but their defenders are not technically able to perform it consistently. It cost them the two goals as Barnsley soon realised they could flood a few players forward to try to win the ball near the goal as the defenders fanny about.
The Posh comeback was predictable given our weakness in defence, especially centrally from crosses. I was expecting Posh to go on and score the winner but both sides hit the bar and, in the end, a fair result.
So that's 42pts from half the games played, 84 points would be a Play Off spot. Duff finished with 26 wins, we have 12 at half way. Despite our very good recent form we remain 7th so it wont be easy.
Step up Parekh and bring in an experienced defensive leader. Spectemur Agendo mi owd.
Kane saying after the match that Collins has changed the style the team plays - and it’s taken a while for the players to get used to it.
Which of course confirms (if confirmation was needed) that there is a style that Barnsley plays - and that style has been changed.
But - watching the 1st Half against Vale and the game against Peterboro then IMO the style is very much like the Ismael / Duff way of playing than at any time during this season.
For the first time we saw a proper high press - the strikers regularly waving the midfielders forward.
And it paid off.
We also saw our 3 centre backs running forward with the ball.
Which was great to see.
Also the ball released earlier and hitting the strikers running into space.
All of it was different and much better to watch than what we have seen earlier in the season.
Fingers crossed Collins can keep the players in line and keep this going.
