Over the line are we, Alf? 😁 Come late Tuesday night , I'm anticipating Southampton will have leapfrogged us....and Ipswich drawn level.
Was thinking/hoping that West Brom would have done us a favour last week, but they were an embarrassment, can’t see Southampton dropping many more points, although they do have Ipswich/Leicester and us yet to play, Ipswich just keep hanging in, I can see us doing a usual implode and losing to a bottom side, and dropping stupid important points, not being a pessimist but it’s always been that way as long as I can go back, the early 70’s, often the bridesmaid never the bride.
Don't think this is an implosion year.
Unlike MB's teams I think we are the best squad on paper every game. It took him a while to get the pieces in the right places and playing well. He's done it. We are the man city of the championship. Every team has to play their best game, and we have to have a poor one, to beat us. In the words of the "Macho Man Randy Savage" the cream always rises to the top.
Of those you mention Spaldy, I'd agree on Meslier, James and Struijk, as all have been there an given a good(ish) account of themselves (we all know there are issues they all have, but so do many other PL players!)
Of the rest, Gray, Rutter and Summerville are probables but there is no track record to give confidence that they can be as effective against PL opposition as they are in the Championship (Chelsea will be a good test if they are played), Ampadu, Kamara and Rodon are possibles, but again lacking in evidence of they might perform against PL opposition. I don't think Gnonto would survive in the PL. His playing style is too easily countered, and his temeprament isn't suited to occasions where is bested by defences. Gruev, can't comment as not enough LUFC game time and no PL experience. All together, I'd say we would be lucky to survive "as is".
Think Ampadu would be okay but possibly more at CB than Mid.
Rodon and Kamara may struggle against teams with pace and quality.
Probably right that would need to add 4 to 6 good players to have a good chance of staying up.
We have 21m for Sinisterra to spend. Should get fees for Wober, Roca, Harrison and Rasmus Which coupled with the extra revenue should fund a few additions.
We definitely have the foundations of a decent squad with a good attitude.
If Everton go down, Harrison will stay with us. I think we need 5 new players. Left back, right back, attacking midfield (Rutter might get injured), defensive midfield, and probably another centre back. I think we will be okay at striker with Piroe, Barndoor, Joseph and Gelhardt. I think Anthony can play striker too. Problem is no idea if Piroe and an older Bamford can cut it in the Premier league. Surprisingly, strikers who do well in the championship often do well in Premier league. Bamford did ok first year. Ollie Watkins has done ok. Piku did ok, to name 3. So, I am optimistic for Piroe. He appears to be good finisher and has some pace.
Some unusual scores (and some predictable ones!) tonight, interesting!
