Am i reading this correctly that this season we score more after 81 mins than we concede? Unlike last season.
And overall this season we are net positive in terms of goals for and against in last 10 mins whereas last season we were comfortably at a net loss?
If so, that a clear change and not surprising seeing as we have performed better this season. Progression.
How do work that one out. I was merely giving an example of the way we play when losing a game towards the end... And yes, we do not have anyone in the team who at the death busting a gut to rescue a point. We continue to play the same way throughout the whole 90 minutes. If you see different, then i can only assume your either listening to the radio, or just making it up..
I don't necessarily disagree, but the example you gave was ONE game, a year ago, with a hugely different team, on the last game of the season with nothing to play for. So no, it doesn't make the point you think it does.
I've said before on here that I think we're still missing a Bishop/Roy Keane (Robertson?) type who might do more of what you're saying. That doesn't mean that going headless chicken when we're 0-1 down in the last 10 will actually get us more points.
definitely progress on last year. But that's probably in spite of Maynard's best efforts to make us worse!
Season stats don't tell the whole story though. Like our goals conceded in the first 10 - the numbers are high but they refer to phase we went through which Maynard basically fixed and we've hardly conceded 1 in the fist 10 since Xmas if I'm not wrong.
but he's right about the end of the Crewe game though, so it's not twaddle.
There was some chat on here about our fitness generally a few weeks ago. I said I thought we often looked leggy second half, although the stats don't really back that up - in fact we score more in the 2nd half than the 1st. Most L2 teams are too - you can see the difference in fitness of players like Abbott and Whitaker who've just come from premier training, I reckon.
That's different from not busting a gut when we're not winning. McG does get on it a bit when he's still on the pitch, you can see it if you take off your carthorse goggles. About the only player we've got right now who really fires everyone up when he's leading a charge, is Jodi - and he's off sick. Maybe Abbott.
Matt Palmer always gives his all, but there are captains with bigger personalities who might inspire more of that kind of thing. Considering how many games we've lost where we've been clearly on top, like Colchester and Walsall, I'd like to see a bit more feisty aggression from Notts too, but throughout the game. I still like the fact that we focus more on playing better football rather than Wimbledon/Colchester style.
