I think I used to understand that local government employees had lower wages than private sector workers but in return they had job security and a pension scheme. Now that unions only seem to exist on the public sector and they are getting bigger pay rises I think their pension arrangements should either be reduced or changed to a defined contribution system like most private pension schemes.
