Yes. I complimented them on the speed the Nightingale hospitals were built, it was one of the few proactive decisions they've made although the use of them since is open to question. I also complimented them on the 80% furlough package, which I thought was pretty generous. Hopefully the vaccine programme will be another area for praise, but that's still in it's infancy.

The list of failures is far longer however:

    Slow to impose lockdowns
Desperately slow to implement a track and trace system
Slow to enforce the wearing of face coverings
Slow to understand the risk posed in care homes
    Slow to test incoming travellers
Slow to order PPE, wasting billions and lining the pockets of cronies
    Vague, ambiguous and muddled advice
    An unprecedented number of U-turns
Allowing the chief advisor to go unpunished after breaking the rules, to the point of actually lying on his behalf

Desperately slow to implement a track and trace system ? Unsure of value of this really
Slow to enforce the wearing of face coverings ☑
Slow to understand the risk posed in care homes ☑ NHS sending old people back from hospital verging on criminal
Slow to test incoming travellers ☑
Slow to order PPE, wasting billions and lining the pockets of cronies ? Panic buying rather than slow?
Vague, ambiguous and muddled advice ☑
An unprecedented number of U-turns ☑

More than 100,000 people have died with Covid-19 in the UK, after 1,631 deaths within 28 days of a positive test were recorded in the daily figures.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he took "full responsibility" for the government's actions, saying: "We truly did everything we could."

I know Johnson is a serial liar, but actually saying "We truly did everything we could" has to be his most sickening one yet.

Boris Johnson is a despicable human being.

And don't forget those fat northerners, always scoffing on their Greggs.

I knew that you would blame anyone but the government.

There are many many reasons the UK has suffered. I don’t think we should or could simplify it down to blaming Boris, that would brush away many other impacting factors.
In no way does that absolve him from blame though, significant errors have been made.

But no one should underestimate the underlying social issues which have existed for decades which have created an environment where the impact of these errors has been multiplied.

Years of austerity, red tape in our heathcare system, social inequality, and lack of foresight combined with the obvious distraction of Brexit, have compounded the errors made by this government.

The root causes of a number of the 100,000 deaths go back an awful lot further than Covid 19.

We really need to ensure these are not just hung on the errors of the past year. Or we will have learnt nothing.

    Great post.
Johnson and his cronies are just the cherry on top of a very mouldy 10 year old cake.

I'm not sure that's particularly helpful, BH.

This Gov has made many mistakes during this pandemic, of that there is no doubt.

But citizens of the UK, ALL citizens, must bear some of the responsibility as well. We're the one's who spread it.

If it were left to me we'd still have been in the 1st Lockdown that was called. That certainly would have saved lives but we'd be nigh on bankrupt by now, praps we are anyway?
