Here we have a classic example. You concentrate on the more lighthearted part of my point - answering very naively imo but that’s irrelevant for now - and totally ignore the more relevant part…even ‘deselecting’ it from the quoted post.

So, I’ll ask again…and yes I know at the moment it’s largely hypothetical, but this is a question of principle rather than the practical fine tuning.

IF you were asked to pay an extra (and hypothetical) £200 per year in income tax in the knowledge that, again hypothetically, 20% would go to improving schools, 20% would go to the NHS, 20% would go to restoring our polluted rivers and coastlines, 20% to addressing the need for decent elderly care and 20% to our emergency services…would you think that reasonable?
I would, but show me when/where Labour/Tories would give concrete promises on that?
As said, tax has never been higher, yet all those thing are "underfunded" by most screamers. You can raise as much as you want, but until things are managed and controlled better, you are wasting your breath

The campaign to discredit Farage, is going into overdrive as threat he poses to the staus quo is being realised.
Swale is squadren leader in here.

Even the civil servants think that death threats are ok. The very swamp that needs draining.

YOUGOV - More Britons think Reform UK is telling the truth on immigration than Labour and the Conservatives, new polling shows.

The survey reveals deep distrust among the public, with 52 percent of respondents saying they don't think Sir Keir Starmer's party is being truthful on the topic and 49 percent saying the same about the Tories.

Some 60 percent said they think Nigel Farage's party is telling the truth about immigration in the poll of 2,238 Britons carried out by YouGov for Sky News from June 14-17.

The poll comes as Reform has set out proposals for a "freeze" on non-essential immigration as well as a four-point plan to tackle small boats including quitting the European Convention on Human Rights and returning migrants who come over in boats to France.

As ever, parties don't tell the whole truth.

Let's look at Labour. Starmer has said he won't raise Income Tax, NIC or VAT. I don't think he will. What he will do is impose higher taxes on Banks and Banker's bonuses. He will look at taxing the super rich by filling in any loopholes. He might even apply a wealth tax on anybody with more than x amount be that 10, 15, 20 million. They can afford it. I don't know if it's true but people are posting online that the UK had 35 food banks in 2010 and there's over 3500 now. While the number of poorer folk needing food banks has risen immensely, the same sources are saying that, in 2010, the 1000 richest in the UK had a total wealth of £248Bn. Today that figure for the richest 1000 tops £1 Trillion. If true, the divide is, indeed, increasing at an alarming rate and needs to be reset somehow.

IMO, a billionaire should pay the same % in tax as a builder or a nurse or a lorry driver, but no, they have their accountants working overtime to bring that % down close to 0.

Farridge wants to bring Corporation Tax down from 25% to 20% and, eventually, to 15%. The 1000 richest are very much on their way to £2 Trillion in a short timespan. There's an awful lot of levelling to be done.

Still at least you aren’t ruling out the necessity for tax rises, which is a breakthrough, and I’ve always used the term ‘properly targeted’ for which you’ve substituted ‘90% efficient use’, so we have the basis for agreement. The problem then is how to do it…because for the last 14 years taxes have gone up and our ‘services’ have simultaneously been in decline which is largely why the Tories are facing likely extinction.
The ‘Russian’ thing relates to my priorities (and your lack of). Using a Derby County analogy, you wouldn’t have your wish list for incoming transfers for the new season if there was no Derby County would you? So survival of the club always took priority. Likewise, I value the place we live (the British Isles) as highest priority, from which and into which all other things flow. I therefore value defence of the the realm above the other considerations. That falls into pure defence (from let’s say Russia) defence from attack on our way of life (let’s say radical Islam) and defence from more insidious ‘actors’ (let’s say China). Just a personal view, but I’m not surprised you excluded it

Andy…I didn’t exclude anything and of course I recognise the need for defence spending. I was identifying the things that explicitly need attention and putting right after the last 14 years of neglect. Maybe defence is another…I wouldn’t know but it may well be.

Don’t usually value YT vids on forums but maybe this one should be on mainstream TV. Well done MA…always knew there was something I didn’t like about Farage.

‘14 years of neglect’…you’re so easily drawn in rA!

Anyway you have my answer, although I would never volunteer any tax payment not due, if my tax went up for ‘the general good’ and was spent effectively then yes I wouldn’t be on the streets protesting about a modest increase. It’s happened often enough over the years relating to one particular ‘income stream’ I have that I’m used to it

You’ll have to explain that first sentence. Why else are schools, hospitals and roads in such a comparatively dreadful state?

I had your answer early doors this morning and appreciate it. Of course none of us would ‘volunteer any tax payment not due’ - other than charitable giving which I suppose is a form of totally selective and entirely voluntary conscience/gratitude ‘tax’ - but the point is…in the grown up real world we have to contribute towards the things we want and in terms of ‘services’ that is very likely to involve higher taxation. As ever…if we get what we pay for I, for one, won’t be objecting.
