To concede early, like we did, is obviously disappointing and then just before halftime. We just weren’t able to find the spark within the 90 minutes. That’s the first time this season that we’ve had that. We’ve had some attacking changes at half time to get the attacking players on the pitch to go for it.

Credit to Rotherham, the way that they play makes it so difficult for you and I thought they were right at the top of their game today, obviously buoyed by that early goal. What we’ve done up until now is responded to a disappointment and that’s now the challenge for us on Tuesday night.

The Milwall game won’t be too dissimilar so we’ve got to learn from it quickly.

How important do you think the early goal was?
As I’ve said before, to concede first or to score first is a big swing in that psychology. We’ve responded in the first half in terms of we’ve got down the sides a couple of times. I remember one that Antoine gets down side and Nahki is in at the back post and just wasn’t able to execute.

To concede when we did, for that second one, makes it even more difficult. We just had to go for it in that second half and we just weren’t able to find the spark. They won the majority of the first and second balls throughout the afternoon, that’s fair to say, and that’s the disappointment.

'Bullied' - Bristol City player ratings after Robins outfought by Rotherham United
Where was the line in terms of Rotherham being very good today and Bristol City maybe being a bit off colour?
Huge credit to Warney [Paul Warne]. They’ve had some tough moments this season but they maximise everything as a staff and I’ve got a lot of respect for them. I thought they were at the top end of their game.

Equally, that doesn’t take away that we weren’t. We weren’t at our levels today and there’s no hiding from that. I think individually and collectively, we weren’t at the top of our game.

When that happens in a football game, more or often or not you get beaten. That’s the case and we have to take it on the chin.

They’re obviously a physically dominant team, huge size all over the team. Maybe, for us, you might not be able to compete with a Crooks, for example, whose 6ft 4, 6ft 5 in midfield in terms of height, Smith up front or whoever it is who may sometimes be a little bit sharper in the mind in terms of anticipating where the ball is going to drop.

They had the bit between their teeth after that first goal and that’s probably where the game was won and lost.

There was some talk before the game about Paul Warne being under pressure and his job being under pressure. Do you think that was a factor in the game at all?
He’s a top guy, Warney, and I know the players really like and respect him. I think they’d fight for him in any game, whether that’s true about the pressure, I’m not too sure.

For us, it’s just a disappointing afternoon. Going back to Warney, they maximise everything and they’re competing with some good teams in this division.

It’s a good day for them and it’s a difficult one for us but we’ve got another one in four days’ time.
Good to hear an opposition manager give us a bit of praise after we've won.

Both management teams did the same homework they always do.

Seven times out of ten, the top teams counteract this approach and cope. Why? They have better players.

We dropped our standards against Coventry and got punished. In other games I think we’ve competed. We’ve been unlucky a couple of times. Two or three times we fell short.

Bristol City were below par. We took full advantage and did a number on them.

People have to stop looking at this from one perspective all the time. Too many on here, think it’s simply a case of us playing high tempo and every other team will just rollover a let us beat them every week.

If it was that easy. LOL.

Great win and still not 10 points adrift 😉 nice to see the doom and gloom brigade happy,

The other side of this coin is of course “ one win and the happy clappers appear”

It’s not entirely about the final result, it’s more how the team arrives at that result

First and foremost, its okay and healthy to criticise when its justified.

I just don’t get the current black and white, its all column A or column B way of thinking
I don’t get the bile and anger expressed on social media , with many, many people calling for the heads of the management team because we have a bad performance.

The Coventry game was the ONLY time this season the performance was unacceptable. A game we needed to win, or at least get a point from, or at the very least have a bloody good reason why we didn’t. But we were second best and it hurt.
But it was the only time. Every other time we have gone out and battled against teams with the financial resources to find the best, matured talent across the globe and given the a game - and taken points from most.
Today we were out outstanding, but for me it shows how important confidence is to this team. When we have it we get our tails up. We play, we press , we dominate.

Which leads me on to our main point. Given that we cant go to the games , I think those of us with a disposition based in reality need to get behind the lads. The keyboard warriors that expect instant t success, and insult and undermine everything weve achieved in the last few years, may be entitled to their opinion but it needs to be countered with a bit of reality
Unlike most teams these days, this team represents Rotherham. Not China or Portugal, or the US or the Emirates, but Rotherham. Its funded by local enterprise , not just the owner but the sponsors and the supporters. And we take the rest of them on. We work harder, think harder and try harder

And today we battered a team from the top six of the fourth biggest league in the world.

Get In. We should all be proud. And perhaps the people who should learn the most from it aren’t just the management teams but the so called supported who cannot wait to vent their spleen and undermine everything we have achieved in the last few years.

Im happy – and a bit pissed. Just as you should be on a Saturday night!
I wish I'd written that post Mark!

I don’t expect them to win every game but I expect us to put a shift in 100%

I take each game and comment on each game as I see

You are cut from the same cloth as Warne. If we had played those games you say we were unlucky with the same way we started today then those results may have been wins and not just unlucky.

And you are also saying that we won because Bristol wer under par! When what you should be saying is that we were to good for them today, we outplayed them in every department and outclassed them. But NO it's not down to how good we were but how bad they were. Shakes Head.

Bristol were below par. Doesn’t devalue our performance at all but it is what it is.

I’d love these players to be machines and play like they did today and the opposition to perform like they did but it won’t happen.

I won’t say anything other than the truth. I can’t help it if things are so black and white for you but it’s not how it works.

I have far more respect for Warne and his players than you do. I appreciate the job they are doing and bar the Coventry game, have been more than satisfied with performances this season.

Bristol City will not be satisfied with that today. If the boot was on the other foot, Warney would have got pelters if we’d played like that.

The cider swillers are probably just arriving back in Bristol about now have received a comprehensive lesson in how to win a football match.
Really pleased with that performance and a return to the standards we have previously set ourselves. Can't ask for more than that apart from keep it going.

Agree with the comments that we were far too good for Bristol rather than them having an off day. They couldn't get near us

Banksy can shove his stencils and graffiti where the sun doesn't shine. Outclassed today

Out of the two results yours was probably the better if you take the local rivalry out of it .

Much needed win and confidence booster for you lads .
