Self preservation and it certainly does happen like that
I think the ref would **** a brick if Rotherham fans were angry with him so personally I think there might be some that have the ‘bigger club’ syndrome

I think the key word there Ronners is "subconsciously". Other than Trevor Kettle, I dont think any ref has deliberately officiated "against" us. But I'm absolutely certain theres subconscious bias, which is even worse when crowds are in the stadiums.

The thing is with that flour is that if a referee starts doing that on a regular basis at that level of football, than they will get found out, and players as well as managers, will lose all respect for him
Yes it's easy to say that the ref will go with the bigger shout for anything from the bigger clubs, but the better referees give it as they see it and that's why certain referees over the years always seem to get the major games because they react to what they see rather than what they hear.
I've watched the smudge sending off a few times and I think it's their player Paterson who's in the refs ear just before the red card comes out, and I've already said that I thought the ref had a good game, because he allowed the game to flow and didnt give a foul just because a player from either side went down, however, the sending off tainted that performance and I cant begin to think how any of us would have felt had we lost the game and then knowing the red card had been overturned......fine lines UTM

I'm not suggesting that they do it at each and every game Ronners, just some games when there's a David vs Goliath match.
If Birmingham turned up at Pride Park with 3500 away fans then it might be different particularly as their Manager is going to get air time on TV.

There's a twitter thread showing all the misdemeanours against us this season and there's far too many blatant injustices to be comfortable with it

One positive issue for us was how quickly the red card was overturned.

Yes Grumps, I did say that there could be something in it, and we do seem to have been on the wrong end of game changing decisions this season, and that is without having ump**** thousand rival fans screaming at the referee.

I can see where you are coming from flour, and as I said in my reply to Grumps that we do seem to have been on the wrong end of more than a few game changing decisions this season.

The twitter thread was only scratching the surface, their is virtually an example every game we have played this season. It gets beyond the odd refereeing mistake. When was the last time a refs or linesman mistake gave us a dodgy goal or penalty? Can you remember any examples, I can't.

I can't remember any opposition fans coming on social media saying they were robbed by a dodgy goal of ours.

    True or not folks?

I believe that refs have a mindset before the game that we are going to be an anti footy team and thus jump on anything we do and turn a blind eye to the "footballing" sides misdemeanours.

Look at the hammer Smudge and Tree get from opposition players. I am not saying they are angels but they get a disproportionate number of fouls given against them rather than for them. Weds night was a classic example of how Smudge is treated in this league. The poor bugger has his shirt ripped off him and no fecker notices.

I thought when Stevie left us that refs might be a bit more lenient to us with him not in their ear all the time. How wrong I was. If owt they are worse with Warne because they know he won't make much of a fuss about their poor decisions.

To be honest Roly, it's a reasonable observation with regards to when we were last given a dodgy penalty, or dodgy goal, but we as fans definitely dont complain as much when we've been in division 1 so maybe, as one of the more fashionable teams at that level, we benefit from it? that is if the subconscious of the refs work the same in the divisions below?
However, maybe other clubs feel the same as we do, and I do go on other teams that we play forums, and supporters do accuse us of being physical, and ref letting us get away with it, when in that particular game, I've seen it the other way round, and ref has allowed their players to constantly foul such as smudge and tree, as you said, so we cant all be right.
The thing about fouls is that they are subjective, but we are talking about things that are obvious such as stonewall penalties and offsides, which we most certainly haven't had the rub of the green with this season.
