Game time is the key for 2nd string players such as Sam.

One of the games in the last round was watched by 113, top gate was 2,735 at Stockport, who got 3,517 today v Larkhall Athletic.

Notts always seem to be very shy about releasing the figures for this competition.

I think we've got a far better player in Eli Sam than a lot of people realise. The difficulty has been finding the position that suits him best, because he hasn't looked comfortable as a lone target man and he's sometimes done well on the left of a front three, but can drift out of games and lose the ball in poor positions in that role.

Against Wrexham in the second half he played as a support striker to Wootton, and today he played the same role alongside Mitchell, and he did really well, not just with his goals but his all-round involvement. He's certainly decent with the ball at his feet and he's got a good first touch for a big lad. I think IB has found his best role.

The difficulty, as some have pointed out, is that the other occupant of that role is Ruben! But having two good players is never a bad thing. Eli's goals to games ratio when he has played ain't bad at all.

Chesterfield play again on Tuesday night away to Maidenhead, as do Stockport at home to Eastleigh. So Chesterfield could go 8 pts clear before we play Barnet despite our excellent recent form, which goes to show how difficult it can be to claim top spot, especially when you're involved in other competitions. Our away game with Solihull will now have to be re-arranged.

Anyone in a pub team is a better prospect than Mitchell

Dont think he has been given enough chance for this judgement. Many players in the squad were called out as rubbish in the past (Chicksen under NA), give them a chance please.

Harsh. IB has improved virtually all our players, no reason why he won’t do the same with Mitchell.

I'll take the win, although a draw would have been a fairer result. Eastleigh worked really hard and did a good job of stopping us playing, and if they had converted either of the two decent headed chances they had it might have been different. We had the bulk of the possession, but most of it was in our defensive third. Poor game, poor performance, poor atmosphere, good result. On to the next round.

That's unfair. He's had some decent games for us, especially when he uses his pace to attack defenders down the left side, but I would accept that he still needs to improve if he's going to challenge for a more regular place. His finishing has looked very wayward at times, but let's see how he develops under a good coach like IB.
