Currently reading Timothy Snyder's "Bloodlands" that tells the story of Eastern Europe and how the populations of particularly Poland, Lithuanua, Latvia, Belarus and Ukraine suffered under both Hitler's Nazi Germany and Stailn's Soviet Union. The numbers of those killed (by both) is mind numbing and whilst the Holocaust is taught in schools still perhaps more focus should also be given to "The Great Terror" that Stalin brought to the region too.

The parallels between Hitler and Stalin in the book are obvious but "Bloodlands" is a timely read because Putin's actions echo both and he needs to be stopped. The Western allies were slow to recognize the threat Hitler posed, so intent were they on avoiding war, and similarly slow to recognize what Stalin was doing and stand up to him as they needed the Soviets to defeat Nazi Germany. We need to learn from history.

It is ironic that the UK probably saved Stalin and the USSR from defeat by Hitler in WW2; we supplied an enormous amount of stuff via the Arctic Convoys, costing many British lives in so doing, to Russia and then, prior to the crucial battle of Kursk, the Bletchley Park codebreakers provided the Soviets with the German battle plan. So, when the Germans attacked, the soviets were ready for them; without that information, the Germans would probably have won that battle and gone on to take Moscow. The Allies would still almost certain the war but the World wouldn’t have had to deal with the monster that was Stalin, who was at least as bad as Hitler. There are some interesting reads about the Russian psyche and it makes for uncomfortable reading.

I hope that, if he does have cancer, no western pharma companies provide him with any medication and that the b@stard really suffers badly. Unfortunately, he has nominated another murderous lump of dung to take over; what a cesspit of a country.

Don't know if Putin has cancer or not but recent videos of him certainly seem to fuel the speculation about him having Parkinsons. Hitler ended up with Parkinson's I believe as well as being hooked on a cocktail of drugs and was paranoid about germ too. Impossible not to see the similarities between the two delusional narcissists and yet Putin has the gall to talk about "de-Nazification" of the Ukraine. His side kick mouthpiece Lavrov is equally as repugnant with his comments but why this should surprise Israel or anyone I don't really know given that the Soviets under Stalin killed almost as many Jews as Hitler.

Putin is a threat to not only Ukraine but also to European and global stability and any physical or mental illness he may have probably makes him more dangerous because he will be more unpredictable and harder to negotiate with rationally. Ultimately any such illness may also impact on his decision making abilities and work against Russia but the sooner he is gone the better. Like others, I hope karma comes into play and he suffers horribly but a bullet in the head now might be better for everyone.

Age is not on his side at 69 so probably be dead in 20 years time anyway or probably
sooner if dying of a serious illness. So on that basis plus being bitter and twisted - why would he not press the nuclear button? Thinking he’s going sooner rather than later might give his twisted mind some satisfaction!

My Uncle was on the Arctic convoys in WW2. But let's not forget Russia was allied with Germany until Germany stabbed Russia in the back. We helped them out of necessity not because we had any love for them. The same as now, we support Ukraine because we don't like the Russians not because we like Ukraine, we never gave a toss about Ukraine until a few months ago, in fact we moaned about how racist the people were to our black England players. Does anyone seriously think Ukraine would have given a toss about us if we had been invaded?
Politics and human nature are the problems. Politicians decide which country is flavour of the month and which is the big bad wolf and get the media to whip the peasants into a frenzy. Millions of our young men died in two world wars against a country that saw Jews, Russians and Slavs as little more than animals to be slaughtered. A few years later we are big buddies with Germany, politicians tell us to join them in the EU, and the peasants go about smiling because their leaders no best.
Russia has been invaded for hundreds of years by Vikings, Mongols, French and Germans, so you can understand their psyche in not trusting anyone.
If you were a kid and got bullied and beaten up every time you left the house, you would stay in and play with yourself.😂
Humans always have to pick a side. I never have. If two friends start fighting I let them get on with it.

Let's not forget as well that the Russians took the brunt of German attacks and without the Russians we wouldn't have won the war. America would have stayed out if Japan hadn't bombed them and Hitler hadn't declared war on them.
I have no love for the Russians, I just look at things from a neutral point of view.
I don't get caught up in the hysteria that has plagued the human race since long before the Crusades.

Understanding the psyche of a nation is one thing....accepting it is another thing........
Fence sitting is as deplorable an act as picking a side.....both are still involvement...one is passive...the other isn't....
I am not sure what you mean by hysteria, in this context.
    By hysteria....do you mean war?
