A stat from the Courier at the weekend:

We've taken the lead in the first 30 minutes in 6 of our last 8 league games. We've led at some point in every game. We've gone on to win just one of them, dropping 16 points from a winning position.

    Another stat from EF today:

We havent won a single game in the last 2 seasons when both Butcher and Fuchs haven't started.

I genuinely don't know what fans expect with the current available team. It's not a strong Utd side especially with guys like Butch and Harkes out. Fuchs from early season long gone. For us to be hard to beat and getting results is not to be sniffed at. Top six is progress. We have plenty improving and building still to do to be closer to a Hearts kinda level or Utd of pre relegation level in the coming season and beyond

For this squad of players when we have had key injuries all season to have got top six is progress, might not be as entertaining or attacking as some want but I don't see how we can do much better with what's available, especially with a depleted midfield

It will be some achievement if we finish 4th/5th with the current available personnel as midfield is decimated

Before the season no one said "I'd be delighted with top six providing its pleasing on the eye" , it was all delighted if we aren't fighting relegation talk

I think the negative feeling from some of the fanbase is wholly unfair on Utd, the team and staff

    In my opinion

    I agree shedka.

The thing is, the ultra important matches are the ones against Motherwell and Ross County. Total 6 pointers, both of them.

Recruitment could have been much better though. McNulty should never have been kept on and the January window was another complete flop. Watt does add to the team in some ways but he's scored 1 ****ing goal! From leagues top scorer to scoring one goal from a yard out in months. Mcdonald was a pointless January signing as was the Arsenal kid. We were once again screaming out for a goalscorer and some creativity and got neither. It's great to be in with a shout of Europe but we could have already sealed it if the teams deficiencies had been properly addressed.

I got called out a couple of weeks ago for suggesting that the season was as good as over. I still can't see us doing anything different between now and the end of the season....I certainly can't see us going on some sort of winning run where we are creating loads of chanes or scoring goals. I think our final position will depend on how crap the opposition are..we will be constantly meh!
If we sneak a European place..then I will be delighted but lets not be believing that we have turned any sort of corner. It has ended up being a rather biege season.
I genuinely thought we would be cannon fodder this season..so I will happily eat some humble pie on that one....but my preseason concerns are still there.
I am anxiously awaiting the much required signing spree to see if we can build in the areas that even the management identified last season and didn't address.
Our deficiencies are so glaringly obvious that we should be looking to address them almost immediately and I hope and pray that we have them already tapped up so we can get them bedded in early as we found out this season...early points on the board can be the difference between top 6 or a relegation dog fight.
A European trip and a 5th place finish would help release some funds to get the type of player we need.....a big push is needed to try and get us over the line....we have 4 cup finals ahead of us and for those leaving...they have 4 games to put themselves in the shop window!
