Without a doubt LW is an upgrade on IB, but I can't agree with all the negative comments about Burchnall, particularly those about the manner of his departure. He only did what many posters would do and saw an opportunity to progress and went for it.I

IB wasn't a bad manager, he just wasn't a great one. I feel that he had a few squad balancing issues to deal with and also lacked the ability to see our midfield was easily overrun. He was trying to fit Roberts and Rodrigues into a system that just didn't suit. In order to try and get them in, he then played Palmer as the defensive midfielder and we just got overrun. He also had Wootton as the main striker with very little competition and let's be honest, he was wasteful. He had the opportunity to be a Langstaff last year but wasted so many chances. Him putting them away would have made games a lot easier for us.

I think LW has only a couple of times not played one of JOB, Bajrami or Francis as the breaker in midfield. He knows Palmer is better suited up the pitch and we tend not to get overrun in midfield as much now. I think he once attempted to play Castro and Rodrigues together and quickly changed it second half

No, he was rubbish. The Grimsby game said it all. Defined his tenure as much as Ardley's Harrogate game. Clueless. Embarrassing.

LW has made a huge difference, clearly.

However to call the previous two head coaches/managers "clowns" is just plain wrong and disrespectful. Unless of course you started supporting Notts in 2019 or your memory is so bad you can't remember some of the men in charge prior to that pair. In that case fair enough, carry on.

No, CanArdley and Burch were poor. Previous managers were worse but good grief, is that a fitting way to judge them? If we go back a hundred years I'm sure other managers have been worse. Others in my supporting time have been better. Happy New Year, onwards and upwards.

FGR are being linked with all manner of transfers in January so it looks like Vince is backing him.

FGR in league one are a bit like the other team not far from Meadow lane with a similar name to FGR in terms of it being their first season in a higher league where they are expected and are currently fighting for survival.

So it maybe about looking beyond the short term of this season and backing the manager. FGR strike me as the kind of club that is not one to hire and fire at will. They must have known and been expecting what was to come which is struggle. Likewise so would IB when he took the job.

We know only too well that having two or three managers in a struggling season made no difference to our survival. Derry, Hart (Caretaker) and Moniz we went down. Nolan, Kewell and Ardley we went down.

Similar , but FGR are much more able to compete on finances in L1. Forest owners apart from Brentford are only worth 630 million, whilst the others in the premier are worth billions

Well yes, other Notts managers is surely the best guide to judging their time at Notts. It's certainly a far better barometer than selecting a single game, especially if it's a playoff final. Clueless but finished 3rd and reached a playoff final??? I would suggest that's somewhat contradictory

Now, we can see just how utterly inept and clueless they were.

Last season, some on here were very fond of reminding us how MASSIVE Solihull were with their billy big time budget compared to little old Notts... Well, NA ain't now doing any better down there than he did whilst he was here.

The pair of them can be tossed into the dustbin of history marked "losers" with the lid on and a pile of bricks on top to make sure they don't climb back out for a 2nd stint.

A lot better than Ardley and Burchnall. LW has given us a genuine chance of the automatic place, the other two never came anywhere near it.

I agree he's a lot better - but Burchnall was classed a failure on here, simply because we didn't go up.

I have just been looking at what LW said when he was appointed. Worth a read I think:

'I think Ian Burchnall did a fantastic job here and has developed a style that I’ve really enjoyed watching in the games I’ve reviewed.

Having spoken to various people, I can understand the work that Ian did and I’ve got a lot of respect for that. I’m hoping I can build on that, so it won’t be a wholesale change or a shock to everyone. Continuity will be key to our progress.'
