It's an interesting point about Smith and Hugill, as they are very similar types of player.

Both seem ineffective and almost anonymous when left alone up front, but give them some service and adopt a formation that suits their style of play then they become an absolute menace for defences.

We've seen glimpses of what Hugill can do when the rest of the team gel together around him and now we've bolstered our attacking options I feel there will be more to come. His workrate is phenomenal, just like Smiths was.

So the comparison is fair but my belief is that, as much as Smith will always be a legend to me, Hugill is a Championship version and Smith has his best performances in League One

Hugill's control isn't bad but Smudge was exceptional at killing a ball under pressure
Hugill's finishing is poor - Smith's was decent on the deck, exceptional in the air
Both give 100% but I'd be amazed if stats don't show Smudge covering more ground
Smudge had a deceptive turn of pace, Hugill is deceptively slow
Smith was generally better at winning aerial challenges
Smith made more and better quality runs - this helped Smudge be a better provider (he was actually a really good crosser of the ball) whereas Hugill's career stats average one assist per season

Hugill not fit to lace Smudge's boots
Not fit to lace Kelly's either

Are we going to have this ridiculous cart hippophilia when Hugill scores once every 6-7 games?

    Yes. It's a good feeling

Why the constant comparisons between past and present players and managers. It's a nonsense and achieves nothing. Your vitriolic posts against our present manager and player is uncalled for unless you are a windup merchant.
My view is Gladstone Guest was a far better player than either of your comparisons who couldn't even begin to lace his boots, so put that in your pipe and jolly well smoke it.

Smudge I've forgotten him he wouldn't have scored goal Hugill did yesterday. We've moved on. Not fit to lace Kelly's boots either it's got to be a wind up!
