We will wait until the season ends before rebuilding a squad good enough to challenge for automatic next season..
I think there's a chance we make the playoffs if we bring some decent players in this January, but I don't think we're strong enough to win them. I'm caught between wanting to get promoted and realising that we'd probably be better off spending another season in L2 and mounting a genuine challenge for the auto spots next season. We'd have to have such a massive rehaul this summer if we somehow went up.

Teams like Luton and Lincoln spent multiple seasons in L2 after getting promoted from the NL. They went up when they were good and ready, and that made it easier for them to establish themselves in L1.

Our style also requires good understanding between players and massive amounts of practice to make it work. I'm not sure you can do that even in a pre-season following a major overhaul. I am not sure that players coming in during January will hit the ground running, so we may need to be patient before deciding whether we have been ambitious / successful in our recruitment.

I would love to see your evidence for this - one early recruit and some rumours about a young lad and a golden oldie? I'm not sure how you draw your conclusion from that information.

I am not sure how sitting in the play offs isn't challenging, but I suspect you would still hold your view of having given up even if we were 10 points clear at the top.

Not saying the rumour is true or if Notts are even in for him, but I wouldn’t dismiss because it seems unaffordable, especially if the rumour I saw about Macca having a release clause that is to be activated by a Championship club turns out to be true.
Macca might have a release clause, but it will be for an eye watering amount

If there is a clause then it's quite possible that it could be triggered this coming close season. With 18 goals in the EFL so far this season he has shown he has ability beyong the NL. That, along with his contributions from deeper positions, must be making teams sit up and watch.

Not helped by Warnock telling Sky that he sees Macca in the Championship and easily being good enough.
At the end of the day, we all know this is the model. Take a rough diamond, develop and sell. Use the funds to improve squad. Brentford and to a lesser extent Peterborough have shown the way with this and it’s worked. WHEN rather than IF Macca leaves, the meltdown on here will be nuts. The club will be accused of no ambition. We won’t get promoted if we sell our assets. Some folk will turn on the owners. Despite the fact it’s well documented this is how the club is looking to progress.

Yea, I remember the progress following the sale for big profits of Hateley and Astle, clearly two players who made it in the top flight despite coming from 4th/3rd tier backgrounds.

ok, so these owners are different. We need to get up a level soon and show we can get up one more still to keep the likes of Macca, Jodi, Cowley.

I guess it all depends how much he goes for. If he goes below the estimate people have then there will be a few upset people, if it is more than people would be more accepting. If we then bring in a replacemnt people see as being "up to the Job" then I guess people will be happy.

I don’t think anyone has accepted that fact apart from you and a handful of other irrational fans.
January is considerably harder to bring quality players in and also get value for money.
It’s no lack of ambition to be delving into the loan market. Many teams win promotion with a handful of loan players.

I see things as they are, and not thru tinted glasses.. Plus we are not ready to go up...
