    It's completely mad
Our players and staff travelled overnight
None of them expected the game to be on when they got up this morning and saw the local temperature and frost

Good point but it wouldn't have stopped fans from travelling ?
No good sat waiting for the inspection news if fans are 2 hours or so away.
Fans would therefore be travelling in anticipation and all away tickets have already been sold out ?

If Sky are televising games overnight travel is compulsory and otherwise a journey greater than 2 hours travelling time demands an overnight trip too.

They would have still had to travel, but it would have softened the blow I think if fans had been mentally prepared for it potentially being called off rather than being encouraged to think the game was in no danger whatsoever. Grimsby could have expressed their confidence in it going ahead without seemingly giving a 100% guarantee that it would. It's really poor PR.

    I?ve just got back.
Initial reaction was pure anger but had they said there?s only a 10% chance of the game going ahead last night, I?d have still been heading to Grimsby when the call was made.
It?s a tough one. Football clubs are a business and calling a game off costs a lot of money. So you can understand why they won?t make the call if they think there?s a chance.

Sounds like the groundstaff did everything asked of them but the communication from the club was not great. What people need to realise is that Grimsby v Notts County is NOT a local derby, never has been and never will be it's over two hours travel to get there.

Surely it's up to the clubs and not Sky if they travel on the day or stay overnight.

    Robust statement from Notts.

The club shares supporters? immense frustrations following the late postponement of this afternoon?s Sky Bet League Two fixture.

Our hosts had assured us that they were confident the match would go ahead ? and that they did not deem it necessary to arrange any pitch inspection.

It?s therefore hugely disappointing that, upon surveying the surface two hours before the match was due to kick-off, the referee immediately identified areas of the pitch that were unplayable.

With there being no realistic possibility of temperatures rising sufficiently to thaw any frozen areas, and with there clearly being areas of concern based on the speed with which the match was postponed this morning, we simply cannot understand why an earlier inspection wasn?t called.

Tickets and official travel bookings will remain valid for the rearranged fixture, with refunds being offered once a new date is set.

As a gesture of gratitude to our supporters, loyalty points will still be allocated despite the postponement.

Didn?t realise that overnight travel was compulsory for Sky matches. Would we still have to do it for Mansfailed?
