I’m hosting a BBQ today at ours. There will be 3 English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 people there and the rest will be French Portuguese and Spanish !

I hope there won’t be any bother

If anyone turns up munching on a bar of chocolate, wearing an expensive watch, carrying a snowboard, ski poles and a St Bernard dog in tow with a mini barrel of brandy round its neck i would recommend confiscating the latter and then barring them entry into your soirée

Euro game today England v Switzerland..... KO 17.00

This seems to have come around pretty quick but it's here. Is it this game today when we see the REAL England?

The amount of talent Southgate has at his disposal for me is better than he ever had. How he's looked at what set up he chooses
must have kept him thinking time and again, who'd be a Manager only this time, on a world stage?

All the talk is of him going with a back three, is that too radical, should he leave it alone and just see us stumble through another game? One thing's for sure, the Swiss will be our biggest test so far and they have looked and played pretty well of late so much so, I think they could be the surprise package of this tournament and not the Dutch.

Other than the suspended Guehi, England have all 26 players available on Saturday with Shaw "fit to start", Southgate said at his media conference on Friday. Is Shaw the key at left back allowing Trippier to play right wing back?

Switzerland manager Yakin has confirmed pivotal playmaker Granit Xhaka is fit to face England in Dusseldorf, despite an adductor problem. An old warhorse who knows where the onion bag is, watch out for him.

    Match stats:

This will be the fourth meeting between England and Switzerland at a major tournament, and third at the European Championship. England won 2-0 in the 1954 World Cup, 3-0 at Euro 2004, and had a 1-1 draw at Euro 96.
England have now reached the quarter-finals or better in all four of their major tournaments under Gareth Southgate, the first time they have ever reached the last eight at four consecutive Euros and World Cups.

Switzerland have reached only their fifth major tournament quarter-final, and second at the European Championship, after Euro 2020. They have been eliminated at this stage in all four of their previous attempts; this is the most times any European nation has featured in quarter-finals of major tournaments without ever participating in a semi-final.

England have won 49 of their 116 matches at major international tournaments, and would be the sixth European nation to reach 50 with a victory here, after Germany, Italy, France, Spain and the Netherlands.

Switzerland's seven goals at Euro 2024 have been scored by seven different players! Variation or what!

This will be Southgate's 100th game in charge. It has a certain ring to it don't you think? England to win 2-0.

Euro game today Netherlands v Turkey.... KO 20.00

Before we look at any stats or comments made by both Managers, you've got to say that Turkey have made this tournament more richer for them being in it and from their performances so far. Okay the Swiss have contributed well but the euphoric, boisterous Turks are great to watch and hear on TV. I bet they didn't believe they would get this far but they have and are looking to cause a big upset this evening.

Over to the Swiss team and Ronald Koeman is seen as quoting that silencing Turkey's boisterous supporters will be key to their success in Saturday’s Euro 2024 quarter-final.
"I've got some experience against Turkish teams, the atmosphere is always great," Koeman said.
"We just need to keep the ball and they will become quiet. You need to be cool, business-like and play your game." Wise words from a good coach but, will the Turkish team allow that?

He finished off by saying, "The last match was at a really good level football-wise, if we keep that level then it can be a really good tournament for us," he said.

Over in camp Turkey, Vincenzo Montella says his players will need to harness the power of their support but not let the emotion of the occasion get to them. Victory will take Turkey to only their third major tournament semi-final and first since 2008.

"[Some of the players] are used to playing these matches, preparing for these matches, and they have a bit of an edge," said Montella. "We must be able to manage this emotional sphere, to turn the emotions into energy. we are younger, we can have more energy and this can give us an edge."
Montella also called on his team's "exceptional" fans to maintain their vociferous backing.
"They've been passionate and really given us their love. They've always been brilliantly behaved and that's what I expect tomorrow," he added.
"They must show their Turkish pride, be close to the team and show us that even when having hard times."

    Stats:

The past two matches between the Netherlands and Turkey have brought a total of 13 goals. Turkey won 4-2 in March 2021 and the Netherlands won 6-1 in September 2021, both in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
The Netherlands have progressed from five of their past seven major tournament quarter-finals (World Cup/Euros), although one of the two exceptions was the most recent, losing a penalty shootout to Argentina at the 2022 World Cup.

Turkey have reached the quarter-final of a major tournament for the fourth time, after Euro 2000, the 2002 World Cup, and Euro 2008. They reached the semi-final of the latter two of those, failing only at Euro 2000 when they lost 2-0 to Portugal.
Turkey have received 18 yellow cards at Euro 2024; in European Championship history, only the Czech Republic in 1996 have been given more cards at a single edition (20 - 19 yellows, one red). They have picked up at least two cards in each of their past 24 matches at major tournaments.

Across the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, the only European player with more goals than the Netherlands' Cody Gakpo (6) is Kylian Mbappe (9). All six of Gakpo's strikes have come in different matches.

Turkey will be all out for this one that's for sure, meanwhile the Swiss being more serene and will just go about their game and look to come out the other side as the eventual winners.

Mmmmmmm? Nah, I can't call this one. Anyone care to state the scoreline?

    I’ll give it a go

Turkey fans will win on volume, Dutch fans will win the coordinated mass moving competition

On the pitch, yeah tough one but I’ll go for the Netherlands 2-1

What would the authorities do if all of theTurkish team decided to do the grey wolf hand gesture just before kick-off?
