Gretna has a population of 17K so to suggest they could take anything like 12,000 to a Fitba match is completely mental.

Mook, what is the population of Dingwall in regards to what they took to the 2010 final?

Looks like a population of 5,000 & they took 7,000?

    I stand corrected.

Officially around 12,000 Gretna fans at the game, according to the BBC. I suspect you're right though and there were many Hearts fans in there.
There's no way they had 12k in Hampden that day. Gretna owner Brooks Mileson had a cup final diary in The Sun in the build up to the final and he said he was amazed because the Gretna end tickets were flying out the door. And they were, to Hearts fans.
I agree with you. There were around 12k in the 'Gretna end' then, if you believe that BBC story.

You're probably not far wrong with your 43k prediction re. the total number of Hearts fans.

    Ross County sold 11k tickets.

And only the bitter Dayglo's could slate another support for taking 40k to a League Cup Final on a Sunday

Did Ross County take everybody in the Highlands to that game or what?

Last time I was in Gretna, it had about three streets.

I'd have thought 2 or 3K maximum population.

The 12,000 must have included folk from Carlisle or the likes...

Aye, much the same as the old Rangers did in Manchester

    Or Edinburgh and the Lothians.
