I think he's correct in his observations sadly. Anyone coming in at the moment will be basically negotiating on the basis of no or very little due diligence I'd have thought bearing in mind Dale only agreed to consider a sale last week. Who in their right mind would buy a club in such a state with no to little due diligence?

The EFL have said an extension will only be granted if a deal is almost complete and basically needs the i's dotting and t's crossing. I just can't see it

Seems obsessed with the land the ground is situated on, we dodged a bullet not getting this snake, he is waiting in the wings to pick a club up as cheap as possible knowing that if the football club fails he has the back up of being able to sell the ground from under them.

It is only a matter of time before he gets his hands on another struggling club. he should be investigated and probabaly blacklisted from owning a club for what he tried to do to Port Vale.

He's a property developer by trade, that's his bread and butter!

Exactly, it should be a conflict of interest which should rule people out in the fit and proper test. Acting in the best interests of the Club, run it into the ground and develop the land. Isn't that what our two previous potential buyers were trying with the Lane. Good thing we have the Hayden Green trust and the City Council.

"As of 5pm there has been limited progress made either by the current ownership providing the required evidence in regard to outstanding financial information, or through a change of control being achieved with new owners," the EFL said in a statement.

"The EFL will continue to provide all support available and will keep working to find a resolution to the ongoing issues ahead of the notice of withdrawal deadline, which remains at 11.59pm on Friday, 23 August.

"If a successful solution is not found ahead of tonight's deadline, the club's share in the EFL will be withdrawn and its membership in the league will come to an end."

For me, the saddest part of all this will be that if they are expelled, the headlines on the back pages of tomorrow's papers will still be about some overpaid prima donna's Premier League heartache as his Bran Flakes go soggy, or some such trivial nonsense.

ETA: EFL chief executive Jevans has confirmed they would consider extending Friday's deadline by "24 to 48 hours" if a solution appeared to be imminent.

They were discussing this on Jeremy Vines radio show today and a bbc correspondent said he had just spoken with Steve Dale who said he had just passed on details of a potential buyer to the EFL and that they had just about completed their due diligence etc, etc despite the fact he had also only just gone public asking for donations to find £2.5m to save the club from being dumped out of the league.

Basically saying and and doing anything he can to try and get another extension but I do think time may have run out for them.

In this situation as well as the situation we found ourselves in along with Macclesfield and Bolton etc, apart from being complete and utter tw4ts I don’t necessarily lay all of the blame at the feet of the incumbent owners for their failings, they have either genuinely done their best and failed miserably or have bitten off more than they can chew with their individual vanity projects. The real blame lies with the EFL who should really be focussed on the safeguarding responsibilities they have towards their members rather than undertaking inappropriate fit and proper person assessments and continuously threatening the clubs they have failed with membership expulsion from the league!

Basically the whole structure needs one hell of a revamp. Forget getting more money from the EPL and FA, that Ship has sailed, the damage is done and the EFL need to get a grip and start putting some thought into a blueprint for the future that is both protective and sustainable for their members.

The £2.5m btw is the figure the EFL have told Bury they need to prove they have as they consider this the minimum amount required for Bury to continue for both this and next season. It’s also worth noting that Steve Dale has already agreed to cover the £3.5m CVA he has agreed with the clubs creditors.

Everybody's now talking about the EFL as if it's a separate autonomous entity, but presumably nobody at EFL towers could change the rules without a majority of the 72 agreeing to it. Isn't it ultimately the chairmen of the clubs that dictate the EFL rules?

As if things weren't bad enough for Bury.

Fawaz Al-Hasawi is rumoured to be showing an interest.

Surely not. When he bought Forest it was because he had been a lifelong fan of the club.

He proved that when in his first press conference he said " I am proud to take ownership of a club as great as Nottingham".

It looks like they've been saved. Talk about close to the wire...
