The head coach hasn't been responsible for signings at United for quite some time. I'm sure they have input but it's really not their role any longer.

Cant understand why you blame the governing bodies when its the people that are responsible for recruitment within our own walls that are making the mistakes. Every other team in the league has made signings this window that have so far improved them, but all i see so far with us is 4 players who contributed to last seasons achievement, Neilson, Ben(ji), Butcher and now Clark, being allowed to leave with no credible replacement.
Its ok blaming the manager, but how many of the players that have been brought to the club this window were actually JR signings?

I don't think there is a problem with this. We have got better players every year since MO took over to the point we got a 4th place finish last season. I'd say most other clubs at our level (and above) operate this way these days.
If there is no problem with this model at United, why are we past our 4th manager/coach since promotion was confirmed and we appear to have players running the show?
Have we got better players this season though? Im not seeing it right now, and i hope from tonight they start to prove me wrong. 2 key positions have been seriously weakened with the goalkeepers and midfield, and our only goal scorer has just been released and i really do hope that there are first team ready options heading our way for them.
Changeover of managers doesn't necessarily mean our appointments.
Neilson, succeeded in his tas to get promotion. He felt Hearts were a better option for him
Mellon, succeeded in maintaining promotion. Difficult COVID period and struggled to gain fans full backing. Wanted to move south again
Courts, succeeded beyond expectations. Earned offer from elsewhere and he chose to take it.
Ross has turned out to be a disaster. Most, including me, would have felt appointment was safe if a bit boring. Reality has been shockingly poor.
Player recruitment has focused on internationals/international experience (aside from the curveball of the young Ugandan and Sibbald on a free) and has been focused to what has been needed in the squad. Choice not to upgrade Butcher was down to manager who constantly said it wasn't needed. Transfers in are a far cry from the days of Lyng, Loemba, Barton, Quinn, Kingx2 etc.
Clark leaving to St J is a minor risk, but ultimately one that will likely suit all parties. Having his wage and some pennies might be useful in the next 48 hrs.
Interesting to see if any incoming are possible before "slamming shut" time. Also very interested to see what happens on the pitch without Ross being involved
No issues with how we work in the transfer market to a point id imagine the manager has plenty input. The club have gave us some very decent signings over last few years. One thing for sure is we've messed up the goalkeeper, Butcher and Nielson replacement situation.
Agree the Butcher/Nielson replacement situation has been very poor. The Goalies haven't worked out as we would want but both international keepers. I am not ready to criticise the club too heavily for these yet. On paper they seem less risky than Siegrist did. Not every transfer works out, difficult both goalies struggling but might still improve
