In the Anarchy link he says that he knows that a lot of you have brought Ukuleles with you,is this normal,do the audience get to join in or summat? I wasn't impressed by that version tbh, Anarchy without its snarling,staring Lyndon just doesn't sound right

That's the point, that it does not sound right, it sounds cosy, which is wrong. It is taking the p­iss.

In advance of a few concerts it is publicised that anyone in the audience can bring a ukulele. For one tune they publicise the simple chords on the internet and when that tune is played the audience with ukuleles can join in.

The fact that the audience can join in with one song with their ukes is a genius idea and very fan friendly and has to be applauded,it's a great idea,I'm presuming that you've seen the UOUK live Stefan?

This from July last year is the most current UOGB stuff that I can find. It is a 7 piece. Laura Currie is in, a definite 'first team player' since 2021. The founder member who left made his own way for many years but for the last few years has also been a deputy for UOGB. The usual base player, Jonty Banks, must have been unavailable so Dave Bowie, one of the founder members in 1985, is playing base in this concert. Usually the bassist uses a base ukulele but sometimes whoever it is he uses a base guitar. Ben Rouse, the leader, has also played base. I find him really impressive in this concert playing lead, especially on the first tune 'Dick Barton Theme' (The Devil's Gallop) and latterly on 'Highway To Hell'..

If I was a fan of the orchestra I would buy an Ukulele just to join in with that one song,I've never really rated the ukulele as an instrument before but that's down to my ignorance of the instrument I suppose,is Frank Skinner a fan of the uke,I'm sure that I've seen him strumming away on one when I watched a program about George Formby and he visited his grave

Folk have said that on a Sunday afternoon George Harrison would drive out to a random pub, perform on ukulele and would give several ukuleles to individuals who could play a bit. The UOGB do not like to be associated with George Formby. They like to think that times have changed for the better. George Formby was a simple Lancashire lad who had the talent but otherwise he lacked sophistication. For their encore in that Shrewsbury Folk Festival 2022 gig (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCaQ...ryFolkFestival) the UOGB play George Formby's 'Leaning On A Lamp Post' but in a Russian balalaika type manner, totally unlike Formby. They do not have any other George Formby song in their repertoire.

George Harrison loved the uke I know that,the same as Joe Brown and I think that's how they became great mates,TBF I'm warning to the instrument since you've educated me on them,not to the point of buying one but seeing them in a different light,I'm always open to people's views when it comes to music because there's usually some hidden gems somewhere,if you hadn't brought UOGB to my attention I wouldn't have heard of Laura Currie, Wednesday I had never heard of her at all and a few days later I had bought her album unheard and knowing nothing about the tracks on it,I'm pretty sure that a first for me
