Notts County might not need to make that decision. After all, they might be drawn at home to Derby in the FA Cup first round. Some of us won't enter the competition until round three.

No arguing with that logic Gunt.

Never heard any Derby fans complain about Notts County, Forest are local rivals but pure distaste is saved for Leeds, and now Middlesbrough and Wycombe of course.

Because they, and Steve Gibson in particular, stirred things up enormously between Derby and the EFL.
Having said that, I believe there’s personal stuff between Gibson and Morris for which the former may not be entirely to blame and either way...it’s not so long since Leicester were our arch enemies but memories fade and, personally, I dislike Millwall more than most, a feeling not helped by at least one of their recent acquisitions.

P.S. We’re not QPR’s biggest fans either...but I don’t think we have any hostility towards Barnsley. Personally I’ve always enjoyed going to Oakwell and you must think you’re in a good position to get to Wembley now.

As RA says Gibson stirred it up with the EFL. Before he threatened to sue the EFL Derby weren't even on the EFL radar, Rick Parry has even admitted this.

Despite his protestations I genuinely believe he would have been happy to see Derby fold.

I think the dislike of Middlesbro and Wycombe for that matter will last longer than the emnities created on the football field with Leicester. Middlesbro and Wycombe were opportunistic vultures hanging around to see what spurious gains they could make out of picking at the flesh of a badly wounded animal.

yes we suffered from self inflicted (or owner ego inflicted) wounds, but those two clubs trying to make unwarranted financial gain out of the misfortune of a fellow club does not sit well. I can forgive another team for beating us on the field - thats what the game is about. I can even forgive a local rival besting us - its all swings and roundabouts over a long period of time, so you take the good and the bad in equal humour. But being complicit in trying to wipe a club out is another thing completely.

So for me there is a hierarchy of most hated clubs, and those that try to destroy us as an entity are the top of the tree. Next on the dislike list we have local rivals such as Forest, Leicester at a stretch. Next come natural historic rivals such as Leeds and temporary hated clubs such as QPR for their cheating in 2013-14. Finally we have clubs that fans personally dislike eg Millwall for rA above, Manchester United and Cardiff for me.

Clubs like Barnsley I don't really have a view on. They sort of fly below the radar, a bit like Stevenage or Grimsby. Rather faceless and featureless. They are the sort of club who, like an errant schoolboy, you just want to pat on the head and tell to run along home.

Barnsley fans despise Leeds and Sheffield Utd the latter for their fans' vile and mindless chants

It's too close to call and could even go to penalties. That would immediately put us as at a disadvantage as thanks to refs we haven't had any practice all season. Mind you, if we don't make it a small consolation would be Bradley receiving a lifetime ban for trying to break opponents' legs. Thugs like that should be playing for Leeds not Bolton. As for Derby, there's never been any animosity between fans or indeed most midlands clubs. Apart from Wolves, a right shower.

You're right GP it's all swings and roundabouts over a long period of time. An example of this would be in the 90's when Barnsley were evergreen challengers for promotion to the PL whereas Derby were long past their glory days when they were arguably one of the best teams in Europe. I'm assuming you can remember all those years ago.

if the second leg does go to penalties, will Barnsley get to take one one then or will the ref just let Bolton have a few goes? Would we then have the spectacle of Bolton taking 5 penalties in the hope of scoring one, before going to sudden death?
