Not sure why he deserves forgiveness? What do the footballers who loved gambling but stopped because they became footballers deserve?
Sign of the times in the West - full attention on the perpetrator of the ‘crime’ in a ‘holier than thou’ rush to be the first to defend and offer forgiveness.
The party that’s been wronged in all this is NUFC. I want what’s best for the club going forward. If that means giving Tonali full support then so be it. Footballers these days put themselves first and clubs second. Our club should do the same.

I know I might get flack when I say this but I don't care about the illegal betting at all. I care more about the non disclosure of it when we signed him but for all we know it was disclosed and kept quiet.

I support him and the club. There are much worse things going on in the world to get upset about.
    This for me completely

According to Fabiana Della Valle Tonali has played his last game before a suspension of around 18 months. They also claim that Tonali will not receive a salary during the suspension and may be banned from training with the first-team, with a fine also coming his way.

    Serious punishment that like.

Exactly. Nor would you blame an employer for doing the same, especially when the employee has broken the law.

    Each to their own!
I think it does. Many are saying: ‘he’s only 23, just a kid’, ‘it’s only one mistake’ and ‘it’s not his fault, it’s an addiction’. While I agree partially with the latter, you could also say: ‘he’s a millionaire and could’ve paid the best specialists to help him IF he’d wanted to’. My take is that he thought his betting wasn’t traceable back to him through these sites and so broke the rules on purpose. He was let down by his mate who’s a grass.
These players are hugely privileged and need to carry some responsibility.

Ivor Toney was caught for exactly the same 'crime' / 'breach of the rules'. Toney Bet on Brentford to win in games he played in. Toney got an 8 month ban. In legal terms this is called 'Setting a precedent.'

Any similar 'crime' / 'breach of the rules' committed by other players after that day - i.e. Tonali - is subject to exactly the same punishment.

Should Tonali receive a longer ban or harsher punishment than Toney the club has the legal right to appeal the sentence.

The will appeal and they will win the appeal as the precedent has been set in the Toney case & also the Fagioli lad also got 7 months. Yes, he was the grass so his sentence will be potentially lighter, however, a legal precedent is a legal precedent. Any good lawyer - Cue Mr Nick DeMarco, still on retainer with NUFC to step into action and sort this Sh!t out for the club.

Him or one of his equally excellent fellows at Blackstone Chambers will ensure that Tonali get's the shortest sentence possible on the clubs behalf.

Today Tonali's agent hinted that the punishment will be just but will be light. So I don't believe we'll be without Tonali for more than the rest of this season. Inshallah we'll see him back by September 2024

The only issue is that Toney was set by the English FA and Tonali's will be set by Italian. So legal precedent gets murkey.

English FA can fall back on, we wouldn't do that but it would be undermining to our Italian colleague to not fufill their punishment.

    Hopefully I'm wrong though.

If the ban is worldwide, surely it has to be UEFA who decide? I mean does the Italian FA have the right to ban a player worldwide (who doesn’t even play in Italy)??

Yeah jurisdiction is an interesting debate however there has to be a detent on specific breaches of rules otherwise what the hell is the point of having them.

    https://sportwitness.co.uk/sandro-to...onths-floated/

Apparently the word is 1 year ban with 6 months additional rehab - in other words - No Football for 18 months.

That's 10 months more than the Ivor Toney got for exactly the same breach of Rules.

If I were on the Board of NUFC I'd be doing everything in my legal power to get this nonsense of 18months aligned with Toney's precedent.

Also negotiate with the Italians so that the 12+6 stands for his participation with the national team. So that he's banned from any Italian Football Federation related games.

UEFA will have to rule on where he stands in terms of Champions League matches.

It's a stinky cologne indeed, the whiff is Sh!tty Stickery indeed.

Let's hope the lad gets something closer to Toney's sentence than this blatant Horse Sh!te!
