Thread: Charlie Cresswell Dilemma ?

  1. #81
I wouldn’t mind if the players he won’t play were rubbish but there is a queue of clubs ready to snap them up which suggests they are more than good enough.

He has done well with Rutter this season but his persistence in playing Gray at RB and not resting him could both hamper his development or get him injured.

When players do get a ‘chance’ if they don’t rip up tress straight away then they seem to get dropped - Gruev being a great example.

When farke rotated at stoke he got berated as we lost. Most on here said you don’t change a winning side unless injury says otherwise, apart from the fa cup he’s kept pretty much the same 11, apart from piroe, who’s lost form, we can’t have it both ways, if you’re playing well then you’re in the side, they’re playing well, imagine if you were playing well and still got dropped, can’t please everybody all the time.

Not sure it is that binary.

Given how many subs you can have on the bench and can then bring on up to 5 I think the point is more who he picks on the bench and how they are used and managed - if you are regularly giving players 30 plus minutes from the bench then they can get match fit and be ready to step in when needed.

If you get brought on with 5 minutes to go or less good chance you won’t even touch the ball.

For all his many many qualities this does seem to be the one issue with Farke and I also get the impression with what he says that he likes to ‘be the man’.

I also accept that the time of took to get the take over through screwed us over at the start of the season too and had it been a month earlier we may have started the season better and now be in second.

The point about Creswell and other youngsters is a slightly different one to direct success on the pitch (albeit they are obviously linked less directly).

Hey ho I’ve spouted far to much nonsense already - would just like to see Cresswell gets minutes that’s all 🤔

So would I, as I believe him to be better than cooper, and even possibly struck, but because they are fundamentally lefties and cresswell isn’t, I think the only person he can displace is rodon, and unless rodon is injured (pray not) that’s not going to happen.

Rodon & Struijk now the 2 main CBs, Ayling gone, and plenty of various rumours around Cresswell and Cooper - think one or maybe both could go this Jan. Would think, common sense and all that, another CB should be recruited for cover.
Yes Ampadu did well against Cardiff, but rather him, Kamara & Gruev remain as the settled and more than decent CM 3 unit. Injuries/suspensions etc, and again we could be lightweight in the run-in, more than likely playoffs etc.

I agree with each and every statement made by HO in this thread. There, said it, now you can all pick yourselves up off the floor.

As for Gruev, he didn't feature much in the 11 minutes of highlights, but given the kind of performance from Cardiff reported by others, it doesn't seem that it was a match where any of the back line was tested much. Might be different when Preston appear.

For someone who is so independently-minded you seem remarkably aquiescent when it comes to statement from Der Fuhrer.

He didnt have to say anything wrt Cresswell, he chose to make the comments regarding the players "state" (physical, psychological). How was that in any way shape or form looking after the welfare of the player? And as Der Fuhrer has made it blatantly obvious that there are (at least) three players ahead of Cresswell (notwithstanding any incomers this tw), how is it "up to him to to decide what to do to get his life back on track", apart from leaving LUFC of course?
    WTF - You stated;
"Obvious that there are (at least) three players ahead of Cresswell (notwithstanding any incomers this tw), how is it "up to him to to decide what to do to get his life back on track", apart from leaving LUFC of course?"

You've answered your own question as its his life to do what he wants with it. So either stick it out, leave & if required seek help for his personal individual needs.

    WTF - stated;
"No, the coach has said what HE considers to be the problem, and offered no clear route as to "how all matters were addressed".

DF addressed all relevant matters to keep the public in the loop on events he was able to comment on.

Any clear route (pathway) would be confidential between both parties.
Any statements made by either party would have been approved before public release - if not DF will have been in breach, simples.

Finally, as a fan i think you've been publicly told enough by the clubs head coach & the players own father has had input publicly over the past 3 months too.
The club behind the scenes will know more hence no player leaks surfaced publicly but knowledge within the players private tight-knit inner circles is known for sure, which means parts of the matter will remain private.

Its a talking point, lessons learned but its in any players interest to make important decisions for their future & mental health & how they conduct themself publicly & privately whatever dilemmas faced.
Fight for a place, move on & come to terms with any issues they may have whatever decision is ultimately made -i'm saying.

As for being tagged "acquiescence" on the matter then possibly i know more than i am able to say or indeed want to - my prerogative but not gonna fall out with you bout matters.

As per HOs statements regarding rotation, if the manager/coach had the naus and intelligence to utilise the large number of subs allowed now, we wouldn't have this problem. Game time could be given to "contenders" with the dual advantage of resting some key players and demonstrating the validity of player claims to be included as 1st team players (if not starters).

He (Der Fuhrer), doesn't have that level of sophistication and/or wisdom, and the results can be seen after only 6 months with him as coach, with several players unhappy with their treatment, and at least one sent back to their parent club.

Yes we are winning games, which is wonderful on the one hand, but on the other it allows the "issues" to be buried and/or kicked down the road. As another poster has said, we aren't going to be able to spend a kings ransom on players (already done that and got very little in return (sorry Rutter!)) so developing youth players is essential, and that ain't going to happen with Der Fuhrer at the helm of the player selection ship.

Again, at risk of violently agreeing with WTF, I don’t think either of us are necessarily making some of the points you may think we are.

The key one being neither of can see what actual evidence there is of Cresswell having played up, being negative or not ready to play beyond Farke’s words. If he had been playing up then very likely would have been muttering as in the media etc.

I believe that Cresswell Snr has only publicly said one thing on Twitter basically saying Charlie. needs game time. He wasn’t critical of Farke.

The second point being Farke went public when he didn’t need to and caused the issue.

When he dealt with the Adams, Sinisterra and Gnonto issues at the start of the season he was keen to show strength etc but from what little has come out about Spence (who was starting to play well) it seems his sins were the same as Cresswell - he dared to knock on the managers door and say he thought he should be starting - precisely the attitude I would want from a player but behind closed doors.

Farke’s press conference comments wee poor and ill judged imho and most likely will see Cresswell and his advisors take the reasonable view that for as long as Farke is in charge he (Cresswell) has no future at ER - very sad for all as he not only looks talented (and he can use the ball) but seems to have leadership and warrior spirit qualities.

Then look at the other young players who are stalking and stagnating in terms of development and it just reinforces the concern.

Farke is the boss for sure but doesn’t mean he can’t look in the mirror and get better too. He seems too insecure and sensitive beneath the facade.
