OK. It always seems to me that calling anyone names isn't as effective as explaining the error of their arguments. EG Debunked gives evidence that more native Scots are in tertiary education. Islay was wrong on that specific point, but the unis themselves are very worried about there reliance on their funding model that is based on very low levels of funding for Scottish students and high fees for students from countries that are rapidly increasing the performance of their home grown universities. Scottish students fees are paid by all taxes and it should be a concern about the dependence of revenues from non Scottish students. That's a rational economic argument and not in any way anti immigrant, or racist, imo.

BCram that argument is fine but it ignores every other Islay post in this thread, and also that he focuses on non-EU foreigners as a target. Read the whole thread and you'll surely see why.

Around 40% of Scottish Uni funding comes from those international tuition fees.

What's really hurting is the approx 19% drop in funding from Scot Gov after inflation, that needs to be addressed so Scottish students continue to receive the free education the country expects.

Again didn't happen. My "own" aren't town centre junkies just because we are the same colour.

My "own" are hard working, working class people of all colours who do their very best to survive and get on when the odds are against them.

That you classify people on the colour of their skin and not what they do or don't do for themselves and their families is anthema to me.

It costs at least £8k per pupil to pay for school education. Nothing is free, it's paid for by other people.

To the students its free, for each one the uni gets just under 6k form Scot Gov. it has to be that way not poor kids can't go, it's that simple.

In the long run, they pay for themselves through better jobs better salary higher tax paid.

It's simply a choice. The government can choose to to do it or not. If we want good education it needs to be paid for, personally think more funding should be plugged in.

Now there are less places for Scottish residents attending universities in Scotland because they need to charge top dollar to students from outwith Scotland to balance their books.
