That’s a wild statement. Here’s a list of worse GK’s than Slocombe in the last 20 years alone…

    Luca Ashby-Hammond
    Luke Pilling
    Jake Kean
    Joe McDonnell
    Ross Fitzsimons
    Ryan Schofield
    Branislav Pindroch
    David Grof
    Rob Burch
    Tim Sandercombe
    Stuart Garden

There’s at least 4/5 more I ummed and ahh’d over too.

Scandalous that you've left Pegguy Arphexad out.

I realise it gives youth team and fringe players a chance to stay match fit, but it also risks injury to any first teamers the rules force us to include. Imagine if Matty Palmer had come on and got crocked again.
I was staunchly against it at its inception and I’m still staunchly against U-21 sides being involved because it’s definitely the first foot in the door of U-21/B sides in the pyramid.

All selection rules (or lack of) should be totally weighted in favour of the EFL sides; we should be able to play who we want, no restrictions.

Also, U-21 players in academies aren’t going to progress playing between upto 6 or 7 games against half and half EFL sides.

There needs to be a huge shake up of academy football, hoarding young players and making loaning players into the pyramid much easier and more accessible.

I cut off at 2004/2005, unfortunately. Or maybe fortunately! But let’s pop him on there. That day at home to Chesterfield when he couldn’t kick it out of his own area. Jesus wept.

It isn't a league game though is it Elite? It's a cup competition specifically designed to offer a route to Wembley as well as give competitive games to prem juniors. Tonight has shown we can use this as a way of getting game time into all our players.

I'm sure they would but ultimately it'd come down to a club vote from teams in the EFL and it'd be akin to Turkeys voting for Christmas.

I do get the latter point and previously when we had a threadbare squad it's been played at a snails pace with players whose sole objective appeared to not get injured I was more than happy to get knocked out at the first opportunity. Tonight though, I can't deny it was good to see some fringe and youth teamers busting a gut to make an impression and holding their own.

I think someone is forgetting his early form for Notts. You're also forgetting the likes of Ross Fitzsimons...

Whilst he probably wouldn't be among the better ones we've had in Cherry, Ward, Schmeichel etc, he'd sit comfortably in the ranks of decent keepers such as Hoult, Bart etc. recently he's fallen off a cliff as age has caught up on him but he's been a solid keeper for Notts quite frankly

That’s a terrible fact to put on here! Christ I feel old now.

Good old mick. What was the old joke? He took a taxi to the Lane, driver gave him his change and Leonard dropped it everywhere?

Slocombe is past it now, but we’ve had worse over the years!

Sam talks a great game tbf. Might be a better coach than player.
Bit of a random one and might just be me but.. does anyone else find Sam Slocombe’s demeanour in interviews and press conferences really quite arrogant and cringy. He’s like that bloke at work who comes out with ‘I’ve been doing this job since before you born mate’ as if that means he’s automatically better than you. Hey ho just something I’ve felt over the last few years.

Maybe you need to do a bit of research. When it was a cup competition specifically designed to offer a route to Wembley for lower league clubs, I went to all the home games. But when Premiership U-21 teams were allowed to join, the openly stated aim was for them to become part of the EFL in a fifth division. I'll ask for a third time, would you be happy to see us play Liverpool U-21 as a league fixture?
