So they sack him (probably not going to happen) and the owners bring in another Coach who will be expected to play the same system, possession based more tippy tippy football.
Generally speaking, the lack of premature and/or knee-jerk decisions during the brothers' reign has been the basis for the progress we've made, compared with the chaos and decline that went before.
That said, the brothers have made clear that they make judgements as much on a decent sample size of performances rather than just results, indeed they demonstrated that when they pulled the trigger on Neal Ardley.
I would say that if the brothers have been making an assessment based on performances since Christmas, they will have been largely unimpressed, and increasingly concerned over February and March. Not to put too fine a point on it, we've been shocking, and attendances have begun to decline.
They will probably still show their trademark patience before making a decision, because they aren't the type to panic or sack a manager unless they already have a replacement in mind, but it wouldn't surprise me if we're nearer to a pivotal moment than some might assume. If current performance levels and results continue over the next couple of weeks, which could mean falling out of the play-off zone, then Maynard might be on borrowed time.

I'm second-guessing how the brothers might see the situation and how they might react in the coming weeks, based on their habits to date. I could be wrong, but I think they will be developing significant doubts about the performances, perhaps moreso than the results. The big thing remaining in Maynard's favour is that the brothers always seem to make decisions based on a large sample size, so he's probably still got time to turn things around.
My own take is that Maynard arrived as part of a management team and the fracture of that team seems to have coincided with a massive drop in performance levels, so I wonder if Maynard without Saunders is a much diminished force in terms of tactics and motivation, but time will tell. If Maynard can generate a notable improvement over the next few games then my theory would be debunked, but right now I'm not seeing many signs.
I don't think there's any forcing through a promotion with a new, hastily appointed head coach.
Let things take their course, if we don't make the play-offs, if he blows a cast-iron play-off place for a 2nd consecutive season, I trust the Bros to show him the door this summer.
And that's based on the chances of future success with him. I'm not giving him too much blame for the current slump. We've been gutted - key injuries, Montague, Crowley, coaches. I'm waiting for Stall to announce he's joining the Mansfield broadcast. Keep it simple - if we don't get play-offs, as a minimum, he should go.
One person who just might be in the back of the minds of those who make that decision is Luke Williams. If the owners are anywhere near 50/50 on whether they believe Maynard is the right man to take us forward, the availability of the Head Coach who achieved our last promotion (with such panache) could expedite a decision.
Williams had us on a downward spiral before he left i believe.
He was going through the most difficult spell of results he'd had since joining us, but frankly that was set against the backdrop of a quite extraordinary winning record, and I think there was general agreement that the standard of our defence wasn't up to League Two level last season, a problem that was also evident after Maynard arrived. The arrival of Platt and Bedeau in the summer has strengthened our back line considerably.
I would be very disappointed if Williams came back. Hopefully he has more about him than to even contemplate it if it was offered
Notts being Notts weve managed to engineer a bit of a crisis from the very promising position we had in January.
I would love it if we announced tomorrow that Maynard had been sacked and Williams brought back but i just dont think the owners are the type of people to sack the coach at this stage of the season and bring back the previous bloke even if he did fancy it.
To be fair who sits in the dugout is probably less important than when McGoldrick and to a lesser extent Jones come back. Very soon, anything is possible, later or not at all we might not win another game.
