The comments made by RN sound a bit as if he is talking up Shanks ahead of a sale.
I hope not as would like to hang on to Shanks for our return season in the Prem.
If he goes then Nisbet is a logical replacement though I don't think Nisbet is as special a player :-(
We should at least be showing some interest...we courted Shankland in the January before we got him. I don't think it would be a bad thing to let the player know that we may be interested in the future. Can't see it happening ....but I definitely didn't see the Shankland deal happening either!
So you suggest we start tapping up another clubs player? Hardly the way to go about things now is it? Imagine sevco were doing the same thing with shanks

There was some evidence in Robbies post match interview last night that he realises some of the current players won't be able to make the step up, which reassures me that he's not going to try and do it with the current squad. Can't find the link, think it was on the BBC somewhere.
Where does the line lie with tapping up though?
Does allowing numerous scouts , head of recruitment etc from other clubs to come to Tannadice (and away games) constitute tapping up? I don't think it goes that far, but it would be silly to think that the player/s in question don't know these clubs are watching and if they don't get him sooner , it might be later.
Still plants a seed in their heads and unfortunately more so in the agents.
As long as they don't contact the player directly or via a third party.
Anyone interested has to make an offer to the club first and foremost. It's up to the club if it accepts an offer, then allow the player to negotiate their own contract with their new club.
I'm sure tapping up players does go on though. Probably quite regularly.
