OT - new one on me

Before today, I'd never heard of Godwin's Law. I have now. Are any other posters on here au fait with it?

Godwin's Law As a thread ages, the likelihood of Hitler or Nazis being mentioned increases.

We seem to have a fair few threads on here that follow that Law.

I had vaguely heard of it but hadn't realized that Swale is Godwin's alter ego

No, but it is quite clearly a ‘thing’, I’ve only known it referred to as ‘pulling the Nazi card’, strangely and coincidentally (or not) the last person I heard do it is the only person other than our own practitioner that I have heard use the word ‘sentient’ more than once in a conversation.

I don't know about Godwin's Law but we see plenty of 'Ram Inn's Law' on here, you know.... stuff being repetitively 'raminned' down our throats!!

Except that as with all stuff on the internet, it's a matter of choice as to whether you read or see it!!

Or possibly if one looks round there are plenty of signs that Nazi sentiments or similar are reappearing decades after it was assumed that such points of view had been marginalised? One would hope that history doesn't repeat itself, but it perhaps worth considering how the tolerance of certain extreme views can easily result in them becoming common place and indeed acceptable whether in part of in whole.

    o

That's one way of looking at it, however, as a member of this site for more than 15 years and having seen it lose many members for one reason or another it is my desire to see it continue for many a year. Consequently, and in this respect, I do not consider ignoring members posts will help in that aim as I also do not consider bitchiness, persistent point scoring and demeaning other members is of any value to the longevity of the site.
Hence my desire, like MA, to see such banality end.

It seems, some on the site simply cannot refuse the opportunity to have a dig at an "opponent". I refer to the 3rd post in this thread, penned by the moderator. I rest my case.

Agree totally…and while some will interpret this as one of those ‘digs’, it isn’t.
The days of Bloomer and Ramondo are, unfortunately imo, long gone. The job of ‘moderator’ isn’t easy and certainly isn’t something I’d ever want. AF most certainly does, to the exclusion of anyone else playing a role, and, in some ways I think he does a good job, but that (crucial) aspect of the role which involves being an independent arbitrator is not, again imo, an area of strength.
