There was talk of having the Kop named after Colin but I think Notts have got to reserve that for Les Bradd or Don Masson, probably Les because he's been more closely involved with the club over the years and his club goal scoring record will unlikely be broken.
It's too late now but I would have named the Kop 'The Tommy Lawton stand' without whom I dread to think what levels the crowds would have sunk to in the 1960s and it is very possible the club may not have re-emerged in the 1970s without the core support Lawton's greatness would have done to maintain and renew, sticking with the club through thick and thin for decades after. With Bradd and Massson's era represented by The Jimmy Sirrel Stand and Warnocks' Wembley wonders under that of Mr Pavis, I think it would have been the correct thing to do. If Tommy could look around the ground today I imagine he would be quite upset at the lack of any obvious recognition at pitch level or outside the ground of his unparalleled contribution to the club in terms of bringing spectators into the ground, the scale of which few us here would be able to grasp. Notts will never see a player of anything like that status, still in his prime, at Meadow Lane again.
