Would have thought with Accy having the smallest budget in the EFL they would jump at 500k .

Keep them afloat for 10 years that .

If Hecky wants him, fine! Please let's get a couple of strikers or we'll be changing our name to Barnsley Nil!

    Matty Pearson Joins The Reds!

The 23-year-old today becomes the 11th signing of the summer, moving from Accrington Stanley.

Signing a three-year-deal with a one-year option in the Club’s favour, Matty Pearson is the second arrival at Oakwell in 24 hours, having followed Brad Potts into Paul Heckingbottom’s first team squad.

A strong, pacey and versatile defensive player, Pearson adds much needed qualities in multiple areas as well as having an excellent goalscoring record over recent seasons. The Yorkshire-born, 6ft 3’ powerhouse feels he operates most comfortably in the fullback areas but is more than happy occupying positions across the whole back-line or in a deep lying midfield role.

Pearson has made over 200 appearances in his career so far and only turned 23 on August 3rd, which shows he has been an integral figure in all teams he has played for since an early age.

Matty has complimented his solid defensive work by showing attacking intent and adding goals to his game, which you can see on iFollow now!

Following in the footsteps of Andy Yiadom and Angus MacDonald, Pearson played a large part of his early career in non-league with FC Halifax Town, making over 100 appearances. Similarly to his new teammates, this led to him being rewarded with international recognition for England C, after previously making one appearance for England U18s.

After completing his 11th summer signing, Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom spoke exclusively to barnsleyfc.co.uk.

He said, “We’re really pleased to get Matty to the Club. This is a deal we have moved quickly on once we knew he was available and I am happy we could get it over the line.

"For a tall fullback, Matty has some exceptional qualities that we feel we can work with and make better. He has heard everything we had to say and really bought into our ideas of what we want to do at the Club.

"This is an excellent deal and I look forward to now working with Matty and the rest of the squad as we begin the new season.”
