We signed Phil Turner from Leicester. I seem to think he came in an exchange deal, Gary Mills going the other way?

I thought Turner was a great player and the perfect captain.

Rimmer was prolific for Chester but dire for Notts.
£200k for Rimmer and here he is at the very top of the goal scoring charts. Oracle (ITV teletext) May 1988.

Yes that's right, Leicester paid us a fee plus Turner in an exchange for Mills.

He was, kept it simple & was the engine in midfield. Notts seem to do better with cheap signings. Chris Withe, Ady Thorpe, Nicky Platanuer, Dean Thomas 175k, Kevin Bartlett 150k to name a few. Glenn Roeder would have been cheap @150k but that is another story as we know.

Stuart Rimmer was the first big signing that I got excited about as a very young fan. A complete dud for Notts.

As for Chris Marsden, he had far too much natural ability , was too cultured and had too talent for your average Notts fan to take to him. Never did anything at Notts and hardly played.

Naturally he leaves to have a very good career at Southampton, and Birmingham playing regularly in the Premier League.

Rimmer only played 10 games for Watford and scored 1 goal. 27 of those were for Chester.

There's another high scorer on there who played a couple of games on loan for us
