    Under-18s too strong for Everton...

WANDERERS Under-18s made it three successive league wins when goals from Elliot Newby and Jamie Thomas secured a 2-0 victory over Everton at Lostock on Saturday.

Coach David Lee was delighted with his team’s display against an Everton side sitting second in the FA U18 Premier League North Group.

He said: “We played very well throughout the game, creating a good number of chances and scoring two good goals.

“We pressed Everton very high in their defensive third and won many tackles and interceptions.

“The lads showed great energy throughout, playing with confidence and a desire to work hard both in and out of possession.”

The Whites broke the deadlock on the hour when Thomas unleashed a shot which Toffees stopper Russell Griffiths found too hot to handle and Newby followed up.

Ten minutes later, it was 2-0 when Thomas curled home from the edge of the box after a good run by Tom Walker.

The young Whites are now off the bottom of the table after their winning start to 2014.
