Sorely missed & agreed on the Hampden points.

When you look at Cardiff, Wembley, Murrayfield & even the Aviva, they made a right @rse of Hampden...

Alrite der, Mook! Been keeping busy with one thing or t'other.

I think part of the problem is that all of those examples were (re)built in one go as grand visions of sparkly new space-age stadia, whereas Hampden's redevelopment was in sections and took place over a decade - with massive periods of fahk all inbetween (like a half finished house where building had stopped because the funds had dried up). All a bit amateurish and muddle-headed in comparison.

This would've been alright-ish (but still unnecessary) in the end if we'd ended up with a decent national stadium but they made the huge mistake of keeping the old-fashioned oval shape and the low unimpressive single tiers instead of just retaining the famous and starting from scratch. Again, I

You're spot on about Hampden mate.

The powers that be at the time it was redeveloped want shooting.

Surely they could've moved the Internationals around the club grounds for 4/5 years to build a Wembley-style effort...

We'll be paying for their mistake for a good 50 years, as you say.

[quote="mr_plugg"]It'd never ever happen obviously, but I'd love it to be kept in its current altered state and used permanently as a track and field venue. Glasgow absolutely doesnt need 3(Three!) 50K plus fitba stadiums in the 21st century...and this would hopefully help athletics to grow and prosper in Scotland.

Meanwhile the majority of Scotland games and also national cup finals could be played at Ibrox or Celtic Park (two infinitely better football stadiums in terms of atmosphere generated, spectacle etc etc) with far more of an option to take some internationals round the country to Aberdeen or Edinburgh and so on.

Nu-Hampden's a very poorly designed White Elephant of a stadium that we're doomed to be lumbered with for at least the next 50 years or so - it should've been retired gracefully in the 80's rather than redeveloped, imo. Apparently the late Jim Farry is to thank for pushing the development through instead of common sense prevailing. Cheer
