Just to add to what's already been said - I think we looked good last night.

A steady win with it being orchestrated by the back line to begin with and moved on by Carroll.

I personally thought Taylor had a fair game...nothing spectacular...but steady.

    Tomkins was outstanding.

Johnson, for them, was always going to look good when he came on because the rest of them were crap.

Defensively we were sound but, imo, a better side than Sunderland would probably have turned us over. Althgough you can only beat the side that's in front of you and the 3 points were gratefully received.

The main downside for me was our complete inability to win and then hold the ball once it had been cleared. The result was it kept coming back time and again. Fortunately Borini and Wickham were total pants up front and Poyet left his best player, on last night's showing, on the bench for an hour.

Downing, again, seemed our only player actually able to hold onto the ball for any length of time. And as others have pointed out Diame is no winger.

Much as I'd like him gone, it won't happen, so Allardyce has to tinker with the midfield to give it more energy and hold onto the ball longer.

Unfortunately I suspect he'll see the win as total vindication for the way we played and not bother with the tinkering you suggest.

But I fear similar tactics next Sunday will not achieve the same end product.

Suarez and Sturridge are just a bit better than Sunderland's front two. And I'm afraid Sterling could cause havoc against McCartney, and Armero on last night's evidence.

Still it will be nice not to have to worry too much about the result.

My daughter's been accepted at Plymouth University and has an open day on Sunday so I'll miss the match live. If we were desperate for points it would have bothered me. Now I can happily set the Sky box and watch Liverpool have 95% possession when I get back.

Congratulations to the young lady. I can think of far worse places than Plymouth to spend 3 years. I hope she's taking a proper degree, like Economics, and not one of those mamby pamby "ologies".

Good luck to her anyway. She'll have a great time I'm sure.
