Thread: I am not sure I would like to see us go up

There is nothing saying we will even get a chance next season. We should of strengthened more in Jan this season for me then 2nd would of been realistic.

That's not to say I'm moaning because we've had a great season. But teams like Bolton , Ipswhich,3 relagated teams plus who ever doesn't go up thru playoffs will make this league even harder next year not to Mention wolves etc coming up

Whether we go up or not, do we believe McClaren cam improve us further and develop the team? On the evidence so far I think he can certainly do this. So if we don't go up, surely we can hope that we will be a better team next season than we have been this season.
The unbeaten run before Christmas changed our expectations and many have been too pessimistic and impatient as our results have wobbled. And yet whether you take the last 10 or the last 6 results, points gained are still well above what we have been used to.
We learnt last time that gaining promotion in the play-offs does put a team at a disadvantage since preparations for the Premiership are at least a month behind the teams who have automatic promotion.

IF we were to go up this season (1 in 4 chance now by the way) then I fully expect us to be relegated first time round, probably finishing last.

The reasons being that I don't think the owners would put too much money in and we'd need too many prem quality players - Bryson, Hughes, Martin and possibly Hendricks could be good enough, I don't think anyone else is. Possibly Grant, maybe Dawkins when he's on form. We would need an entire new back line for starters, we've not got much in wide players who could make an impact, Ward isn't a Prem player I don't think, not sure about Russell.

However, I'd still like to see us go up if we got the chance, the big difference between this Derby team and the ill fated side that went up last time is the manager. Billy Davies was incompetent and wasteful in the transfer market, both in the January window of the promotion season and then again in the summer, he then followed that up with being his usual divisive and disruptive self once the se

In two minds about this one. Yes, as any Derby fan of course I want us to go up, but we need to do something when we get there, unlike our previous promotion.
To stay in the Premier you need investment and would that happen? We have some quality players but certainly not enough to make an impact.
Some maybe happy to see us go up and then sink back down but unless new quality additions happen then this will happen.
We need to get there first of course which is a bit of a lottery...
