Liverpool City Council unable to fund Everton FC new stadium plans.


Liverpool City Council has dismissed claims it could fund the building of Evertons proposed new stadium.

Last night the Blues revealed at their General Meeting that progress on the search for a replacement to their long-standing Goodison Park home was ongoing and have identified one site, understood to be nearby Walton Hall Park, as their preferred relocation option.

Everton chief executive Roberto Elstone admitted that any building of a proposed 50,000-seater stadium would require external funding, which led to suggestions that the City Council, who have been in lengthy negotiations with the club, could be a benefactor.

But while Town Hall chiefs, who last year spent 13 million on acquiring the deeds to the Toffees' Finch Farm training ground, have not ruled out a tie-in with plans for a new ground with local area regeneration plans, they insist they could
