I love Pompey. Lived there when I was younger and wife and I pay frequent visits, never outgrowing the fascination of the place.

I don't know if the USS Monssen ever visited Portsmouth, but here she is anyway:-

USS Monssen (DD-436), a Gleaves-class destroyer, was the first ship of the United States Navy to bed for Mons Monssen, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions aboard the USS Missouri (BB-11) in 1904.

I agree, Wokes, that this thread should attempt to add to the photos through the inclusion of some relevant background information.

Albionic, your above photo reminds me of the old comedic one-liner:

"If your son wishes to become a tank driver...don't stand in his way!"

Norwegian Navy Ship, Admiral Basistiy 437

(Could find little other information about it)

Hi Tunds! I think you will find it is a Russian anti-submarine vessel. See link:- - view external link

Up to the individual if they add text or reference to their post, when PKB started the original, it was just a light hearted picture thread, that's the way it should be without others trying to dictate.

I think this one is about cricket

That's all well and good Wolves71, but for this thread and it's educational appendices ... I would be shamefully ignorant of the Lewis and Clark bridge which is somewhere in the USA

The above picture shows 3 numbers in depicted in a yellow ( possibly Primrose in shade) on a royal blue backdrop. I believe the numbers were taken at random from a 1 - 10 selection.

Don't see any dictating whether or not it is necessary to include background info on the pictures, just an option wither way.

Wokes, the site I picked the ship off indicated it was a Norwegian vessel...interesting divergence in what should be a fact.

Post 5 and 12 suggests different, up to the individual.

    Self explanatory 4-4-2 formation.
