    re: Lallana's leaving comments...

Lallana could easily be another Stewart Dowling or Charlie Adam. The trade-off is maybe that he does win a few medals (Cups not league titles) but as part of a a benched squad not as part of a first team. Leaving an employer on bad terms is not a good idea.

His Clattenburg episode, his remarks about changing lives in Brazil (when meeting the locals), his alleged threatening not to play for the club again, his ripping up of a long-term contract in which he professed his allegiance to the club, his using an interview at his new club to effectively bittle Southampton cumulatively cast him in a poor light.

Lallana may need to play for them until he retires. If not his final move will be interesting. Players often have moves that do in the end see them returning to their previous side. Presumably if his new club wants rid or relegates him to squad football, his next move would be to the likes of Stoke. It is inconceivabe despite his southern roots that he could return to Southampton like

The club has failed to stand up to its players. ?

The club is doing all it can do, ie put a ridiculous price tag on their heads, and its enabled the club to get stupid sums for Lambert, Lallana, and Shaw, and inevitably for Lovren and Sneiderlin.

Around 80 mill for that lot will help to fund your academy and pay for your new training ground, does it worry you that something you should be so proud of is also a millstone round your necks?

    Some interesting points made
I agree pretty much with everything Matt says apart from SFC not doing enough to stand up to the players, the only other option would be stuck them in with the reserves which would be utterly pointless.

I was very surprised initially by Lallana's behaviour but having seen the way it's played out he just looks like another self serving modern tosspot footballer.

Whilst we still have our fabled academy i wonder what the point is, anyone else half decent will be sold quick sharpish under the current regime.

Pretty disillusioned with SFC and football in general at the moment if the truth be told

It's the money in football that is at fault, Shotts. Being in the PL just highlights the problem even more. Football clubs were once owned by chairmen who were in it knowing full well that they would lose money, not coin it in. The motivation for involvement in football was far removed from today's scenario.
Likewise, players today have far more than the
Love of the game to motivate them. In fact, I am sure that we all suspect that football becomes secondary to some of them, at times.

What do you prefer, a club owned by fans with no money or a billionaire with no interest?
There is no choice, where players are concerned. All of them see the money available at the top and all but a few will jump ship to get that,

SFC fans are reaping the downside of their teams relative success. Welcome to mediocrity.
