Crash, I could have done with this info a month or so ago.

I found that Avast free antivirus cleared off all the shyte that had entered my computer by the MillersMad tool bar.

A programme called shop4life (or something similar) had infiltrated everything. It's gone now and it also seems to have kicked the antivirus system I pay for monthly into action!

    Strange beasts this computers.

used them for years, yes they are very good (spesh combofix), but utter last resort as they can damage your Windows install completely, so make sure you backup 1st

    Just run combo fix,
Before you do temporary disable your anti virus.
If you start without doing it , it will tell you to anyway.
It finds more s41t than you can shake a stick at.

    Try adwcleaner first.
No iffy bits on that one

    Two buttons to press.
    Scan.
    Clean.

Knocks ccleaner into a top hat.

It's really a just in case scenario Frog. There have been times (OK not many), where it has screwed with boot files, and if you have no way / technique to get your files off - you're a bit stuck. Combofix does warn against this off memory, but I'm with Crash - it nukes pretty much everything
