Thought we got on well with them.
Me thinks the sauce was involved.
Typical.

On the 13th March 1976, having watched us lose 2-1, I got seperated from my mates outside St.James Park. In my attempt to catch up I bumped into a middle-aged Newcastle fan. Although not wearing my colours, my apology had me labelled as a Londoner.
Said fan pushed me against a wall and a crowd of his mates formed around us. Although not a giant however, I was a good six inches taller than the mini hard-man but I still anticipated a good kicking.
But while attempting to jump up and nut me, the tw@t only succeeded in smashing his own nose against my forehead causing a lot of blood loss. At this point his mates were laughing and dragged him away.
What I remember most was a group of coppers watching the whole thing and doing b#gger-all about it.
That was my one and only incident of trouble in years of watching West Ham and I still like the Geordies, but if he's still alive I hope his nose still hurts.
1976 ? Mid 80's ?
We are now in 2014. What went on 30 & 40 year ago should be left there.
What has happened here in Germany is pathetic. I haven't missed an away game at The Boleyn for 30 years, and have always had a great time when visiting your ground. Both sets of fans have always got on well.
Friday night in Dusseldorf was exactly the same. Both sets of fans drinking together and having a good time.
I didn't see what started the bother, but all of a sudden there was a brawl, and about 20 odd fans (both teams) got arrested. Youngens that can't handle the drink out here.
Yesterday at the match was different. The banter between both sets of fans has always been good nature. There was no difference to what we here at The Boleyn or St James' in any league games we have played over the years.
But West Ham fans decided at the end of the first game to charge the Newcastle bar areas and lash out at anyone. That included the women and kids who were standing there.
I haven't got a clue

Very true Whiskey.
I've still got a lot of respect for 99% of West Ham fans. We have all got that 1% that think a few drinks is an excuse to have a good tear up.
Anyway, I'm off out now to have a few drinks with some Hammer fans I met last night. Then watch 2 matches with the hope no more trouble kicks off.
Good luck for the new season lads.
"The incident at St James' early 80's with a 17 year old hoying a petrol bomb. That lad was castigated by his own fans after that incident."
Your last sentence is total bollox!
I went many times to St James' after that incident. The two clubs were in different divisions for some time but it didn't prevent most of the Gallowgate end singing 'he's only a poor little Hammer, his face is all tattered and torn. He came for a fight, so we set him alight ..." virtually every week!
In addition there was "Hammers burn cheaper than petrol" graffiti on the wall running down from the Leazes end which was there for years.
Storm in a teacup. Handbags etc etc
A few too many beers and a minute percentage of cavemen who want to "relive the good ol days" of aggro in Europe.
Nothing more
proper laugh out loud moment, that one harryOriginally Posted by Ironworks1

munich friendly 2006 was superb 99% of it but the odd skirmish, virtually lager fuelled to a man
large groups of blokes drinking loads (did you see how many lads were holding two pints in the ground yesterday) results in a few handbags, will never change - the booze has such a varied effect on people and mob mentality is at its peak in these situationm
