    Not even 5500 Fan funders

Whilst the effort to raise 250k was commendable, no more than 5500 Pompey fans contributed to our future, I'm sure that more than that could've afforded a donation.

Why thank you Sir, your usual snide observation accidentally raises a few points worthy of serious debate.

Why you post it on here is strange, there are only a handful of regular posters so what is the point you are failing to make?

Pompey have around 11k ST holders which sounds very good but consider the financial implications. The average fan pays around 10 quid per game. A low and unsustainable gross income from games. The chairman himself recently made a statement to the effect that the club has to be run as a professional football club, implicitly the days of relying on fan charity cannot go on forever.

That means more fans coming to games or and more likely, higher prices.

So the big question becomes, where do the club go from here? Promotion means higher wages and possibly transfer fees. How do they get paid?

Would be interesting to find out if the club have conducted any serious market research as to what fans and more importantly, potential fans want in exchange for thei

I would say the extra income will come when the debts are paid off in June 2016 or earlier as it seems the case will be.

Once this is done there will be significant extra income, my understanding is wages is 30& of income yet the recommended is 60% to be self-sufficient.

If (when) we do go up I would expect the season ticket prices to rise especially once we hopefully return to the championship (I wont say premiership as that may not happen), you get what you pay for and have to pay to watch better quality football.

I would hope the club could be self-sufficient as a championship side, with the gates we get I don't see this as impossible. If we ever do get a capacity increase we could look higher up the table in the championship.

Perhaps a few who have just invested in a share of the club and a season ticket decided Gaza was a more deserving cause for charitable donations from their bottomless pit of cash? Handouts from fans cannot go on forever. A more workable financial plan needs developing for the long term involving the development (and unfortunately sale) of young talent. A potential revenue stream that rarely gets mentioned.

I was one of the first to buy a piece of the turf and am delighted that so many contributed to raise the amount with time to spare. If the club shop has the right size in Saturday I will buy PfcinCov a new home shirt. I keep getting e mails from the club re home match tickets then other e mails re hospitality offers. Well I am an ST holder and certainly wont forsake meeting my Oppos near Micks before each home league game. I don't moan about those e mails as I am content to see the club being run far better than it has been. As for the future who knows what will happen. I however will pay my dues and continue to go as long as I am able whatever league we are in

Unless you have intimate knowledge of people's bank accounts I dont know how you can say that tbh.

Back in 2010 during the worst recession to hit Ireland for several years(my place of business) i had to take out a substantial loan to get through it.
Since my family's financial security tops anything, i have not spent a cent with Pompey and i won't till my own debts are cleared.
Hopefully next year i will be able to enroll me and the kids into membership again.

BT, tbh you dont need to quantify your finances to an assertion like the OP stated. The original post is so high on assumption & its as s h i t a post as I've seen by a Pompey fan on here.

I have to admit I thought the same thing as the OP. A quarter of a Mil from 5500 fans. You can analyse it all day but when I saw the numbers of people that contributed I was a tad disappointed. Sorry, just being honest. And I do understand why some fans would and why some wouldn't/can't tho. Maybe its best just to give ourselves a pat on the back and leave it at that. After all it was an amazing achievement. I for one didn't think we'd do it.

I am sure it is stated somewhere, but how many bought a share.

I have only bought a season ticket...something I thought long and hard about before committing.Oh I also joined the lottery (but that is gambling)

There is an awful lot of people out there struggling to survive, and or don't feel secure...The situation at Shipbuilders Ferguson demonstrates how insecure employment can be.

    Biley IMHO is spot on.
