    International Football---Joke Or What?

According to some reports Mark Noble is considering playing for Ireland as he's grown impatient of waiting for an England call up.

If he does switch countries then good luck to him, he's done absolutely nothing wrong under the rules. But doesn't it make a nonsense of international football when a player who has represented one country at all levels up to U21 can be allowed to "change" his nationality?

It's almost like a transfer system. A player isn't considered good enough for country A so, provided he meets the necessary criteria, which in Noble's case is Irish grandparents, he can play for country B.

It's bad enough the "England" cricket team being padded out with assorted South Africans, Zimbabweans and Aussies but it looks as if the same thing is going to happen in football as well.

Perhaps UEFA should just introduce a transfer system and have done with it.

I dont blame him, but at the same time i dont understand him. I have Scottish hereditary but i would never opt to play for them, England or bust. In fact i have sent in my request to no longer be considered as i have been overlooked too many times for the benefit of others less suited. I will now concentrate on my game in other departments.

I guess though it depends on how deep ones line runs through you.

Haven't we been through this recently?

    Nationality is a murky area.

    What makes an Englishman?

    Being born here?

Apparently not according to some of the more extreme loons on here.

    Being born to English parents?

What if one of them is Irish? Or maybe half Irish? Or... God forbid - Scottish?

What if you are born to English parents, but abroad. Like Spike Milligan - who would be Indian according to some.

Do both your parents need to be English?
In which case, Churchill isn't English.

How far back do your 100% english parents need to stretch? Because the Royal Family most certainly isn't English. Most of those parasites could happily play for Greece, France, England, Scotland or fu(king Germany.

    So, come on.

    What is an Englishman?

    I can't stand the scots.

Which isn't a problem as far as I am concerned.

I am, as is clear to most who frequent this board, a bit of a hippie-dippy, love everyone, try to see the other fella's point of view, let's not get angry type of chap.

Unless it's the Scots, who are generally a nation of whingeing, skirt-wearing, caber-tossing, shortbread eating, false tartan myth perpetuating, ginger, blue-skinned, sunshine allergic, victim-playing whiners.

There are few nations on Gods green earth who i would not welcome in a "nation swap" deal with the Scots.

    Ok - maybe the Welsh.

Who are like the Scots, but without the ever-so-tiny-and-rapidly-diminishing amount of dignity that nation has left.

    But you're OK Jon
