    Tommy Banks

Just finished reading his biography "Ah'm Tellin' thee"

Can't believe how disappointed I was. Whilst the stories in it are superb, it's written so badly it's untrue. It makes northerners in general look like simpletons because we have to be translated ffs

I grew up with stories from my Dad about Tommy giving opposition wingers 'gravel rash' as he dumped them on the running track around Burnden. I never realised how influential he was in the abolition of the maximum wage.

Reading the book it's so sad how the players of the 1958 FA Cup team had been exploited and how players of that era had to supplement their income by taking part-time jobs.

The BWFC players of today should learn about his story and maybe, just maybe, it will put their 'job' into perspective. Just don't do it through that book. It's awful and such a shame because Tommy Banks' story of his life is amazing

Must say Jimmy I felt the same after I had read it.

But Roy Hartle's book is far better

Looking back I thought he was Boltons Tommy Smith, played with his heart on his sleeve, as did Hartle, 1950s long time ago and still going strong, I hope,a fighter to this day.?
