Think you'll struggle to find any Academy graduate (with the exception of Seth, who was discovered on a Cornwall beach...) that lived any further than an hour's travel from the Academy, because those were the rules - Academies weren't allowed to recruit kids who lived more than an hour away.

That's changed with the EPPP, of course, with Cat 1 now allowed to recruit from anywhere, but then most of them just used to move the kids (and families) to within an hour of the club anyway.

All this came from a previous debate with Mike, Jim; on the Alex website the hometowns of the 1st & 2nd year pros are listed, revealing Birmingham, Coventry, Holyhead as more distant places. A lad, the goalie, has also been taken on from Brighton. I was just using them as examples for Mike, to show they weren't all from Crewe and the nearby smaller towns. My other question is WTF do we have matches in the winter for and take the best months of the year off? Is it a spectator sport or not?


Nobody at the FA seems to address this question and wonder why so few fans freezing their nuts off, when there are alternatives.

Its only based on history here to separate the Cricket season.

Time for new thinking and if the world cup is going ahead in Dubui then we should be able to play in 75 degrees but then we could have more evening matches in June and July which would be great.
