Tightening the defence - encouraging adjustments

Interesting tactical adjustments yesterday as Moore & Lumsden look to stem the leak of goals. Hunter stayed back more. And how critical are our fullbacks in enabling our whole passing style, both now contributing materially to the attack - view external link

re: Tightening the defence - encouraging adjustments

At yesterdays Hospitality Q&A session after the match the manager informed us that the tactical changes at the back were to see what options he has in defence should Aldi go back to Hamilton in January.
I personally thought McBride played very well alongside Nicoll yesterday and he showed just how good a player he has been for us this season. Earlier in the season he waited patiently to get a chance which actually came at left back which wasnt his natural position. Up to the Boness game he played very well at left back and then yesterday he slotted into central defence as if he had played there all his days. Although there were a couple of mistakes I thought he showed great composure and a that he has a good football brain. This will have given the manager some food for thought for which positions he needs to strengthen in January.
Exciting times indeed and hopefully the manager can bring in some class players in January to supplement the excellent squad he has at his disposal.

    Couple of thoughts

We're fortunate in having a few capable players who can slot easily into quite a few positions - McBride, Nichol, Johnstone, Whatley, Little

Berwick didn't pose much of a threat at the sharp end, surprisingly so either the makeshift defence with added midfield cover worked or it might be better tested against either pacier attacks or real Centre Forwards

Any title aspirations must build on a foundation of solid defence so that needs strengthened in January plus maybe some options forward
