Offensive songs or imagery being acceptable are symptomatic of a dangerous society. Look the history of oppressive societies. The idea songs are harmless in shaping attitudes in society is completely wrong.

Football supporters have been singing songs that would curl your hair for generations and the fabric of society hasn't started unravelling yet due to it.
I heard a wee ditty down here once upon a time that starts "Man U, Man U up in an aeroplane" The rest of it can only be described as being in incredibly poor taste but, offensive and awful as the sentiments contained in it may be, no-one has ever been jailed for it, and nor should they be. Taken round the corner and given a doing, yes - but jail???
A criminal record for singing something that has been semi-acceptable for decades?
I suppose if there is any good at all from this, it may make others think twice about exercising their vocal powers in similar manner if they think they a

Encouraging difference in this way is dangerous. Banning these songs is a good thing and should be supported by anyone with half a brain.

"A song nevur hurt anywan" completely misses the point.
I'm not saying they shouldn't be banned. It's a moot point whether the murders of Celtic fans in the past by rangers supporters has anything to do with such songs - but jail? For a song?
I can see the sheriff's point - that this is a message to others that such behaviour will not be tolerated, but jail??? For a song???? Way over the top...

It's not jail for the song. It's jail for the attempt to cause division. It sends a message that as a society we think this is unacceptable. Hopefully this dafty won't do it again. His mates have clearly now been shown not to do it again. We're discussing it, so we know the consequences now too. Hopefully this jailing will help eliminate this utter rubbish from society.

It's quite correct.

Agree with this.

The only thing that's bugging me is that 5,000 (or more) Sevconians were singing this song, and attempting to cause sectarian 'division' during the game. In that sense, it's a tad unfair on the boy that was singled out and made an example of.

Lot easier to huckle someone walking up the street than it is to wade into 5000 hooligans...

Must have been a real shock for you too learn that I believe most of Scotland's social problems lie with the fact Rangers and Sevco need Sectarianism to shift season tickets.
Hows the move out of sectarian riddled Scotland going?
Daft Shame-us (the Maryhill postie) is waiting on Declan O'Irishname retiring from the Limerick post office and he'll be on the first plane over.
