Thread: Steel City Derby Question

    Steel City Derby Question

I'm writing a report into why the Steel City derby is considered as one of the biggest in the country?

Could I get some opinions on what the derby means to you and why you think it's so fierce compared to other derbies?

Jeez where do you start, is it the first fixture you look for ahead of all others or the anxiety and sleepless nights for weeks prior to the game?

The sick feeling in the stomach on the morning of the game or the sheer terror at the thought of losing as the game kicks off?

The unbridled joy if your team wins 4-0 (of course only one set of fans know that feeling) or the new emotion if you steal promotion from under their noses?
The none plus feeling of a draw or the defeat that can plunge you to a depression like state for weeks and then do it all again months later.

The Sheffield Derby is always very tasty and always fiercely anticipated despite all the emotions that surely go with it.

    re: Steel City Derby Question

It means nothing to me unless we win, then it's everything..

Ours is a true derby, like in Liverpool or Manchester, others like Newcastle/Sunderland, Ipswich/Norwich not so much, although I'm sure it means a lot to them/you.

There seems to be a lot of hatred around these days between the two sets of fans, maybe it's always been there but shows up more today because of antisocial media, I never really noticed it that much as a young un, I was friends with lots of Blades, there was no hate around us, there's plenty now though & I just don't get it...so maybe it's hate that fuels the fierceness these days...ours is a real rivalry though, like different sides of the same coin, only our side is bigger..
