loved Martin Grainger great at free kicks wonderful tackler solid blue BOY
Malcom page was also fantastic at defence could top it
This has been the most problematic position over my years at Blues. George Allen was in this slot when I started and was in the good category. From then thing went down and down.
Garry Pendry filled the slot for years and tears and his inability to pass to a team mate, when in possession was unbelievable. For many years I used to shout, "Pick a Blue one Gary" but this was all in vain particularly as my regular position on the kop was about twenty yards in from the Railway End and about fif**** steps up ( just where the rain from the leaking gutters of the stand would deposit their load on a rainy day) and the left back slot was far away from my hailing distance. He gave 100% but deserves a rating as poor and perhaps frustrated me more than any other Blues player during my time.
Colin Green came from Everton and I liked him and rate him as good to average. I cannot separate my two nominations for best ever in this position who are Pat Van Den Hauwe, who sadly is having a few problems

Clearly Malcolm Page has to be in any team of all time Blues greats but I am not sure about left back - but then where do we put him?
This position seems to have been problematic for us forever and a day and in my time I think only Dennis & Van Den Hauwe have been fully convincing - that is so long as Mark remained on the field! Harry Roberts played mostly at RB for us but could also play on the left.
I'm going for Mark Dennis because I want VD Hauwe as my left sided centreback.
As has been said left backs don't seem to rate! I can't think of any one when I was going to Stans (Malcolm page played left mid) and haven't seen any of the 80's and 90's).
So - I'll put forward Liam Ridgewell. Reluctant LB who popped up to score some cracking goals.
Yes - Gary Pendrey was shocking - all heart but no skill - although I remember him more as being useless in midfield than as a left back. But Colin Green was solid and dependable - better than Martin, who sometimes played there.
More recently? I thought Murphy wasn't bad - at least when he wasn't crocked. But I don't know about Grounds, even though GR seems to rate him.
Again I return to the early days. Ken Green was Jeff Hall's club partner and was solid, unspectacular and totally reliable. In later years Mark Dennis had all the talent other the ability to stay on the pitch - and the same could be said of Julian Dicks! Ken Green for me.
In some ways Ridgewell is a good choice and possibly Grainger who had some great games, going really back on the memory Ken Green was very quiet and efficient seen for a while as the best left back who was never capped for England.
I would only add Julian Dicks as 3 equallefties
