    Pompey Songs

    Good afternoon everyone,
I am a loyal Pompey supporter of over forty years. Unfortunately due to the fact that I work in the oil & gas business I spend most of my time in the Sahara Desert and so miss most of the Pompey matches.
When I first started going to Fratton when I was about 10-11 years old the ground was always known for its atmosphere (and still is!) and the football banter and songs that were sung on match days.
There were literally hundreds of songs that were sung back in the day such as "My Eyes Have Seen The Glory Of The Gates Of Fratton Park", the famous Davey Kemp (the saviour of the Portsmouth Forward Line) song etc etc. Pompey fans were renown for their singing and their repertoire of songs.
My point is that nowadays all you hear on match days is "Blue Army" and one or two other songs and its bloody boring!!

Hi Ash. It seems good singing in stadiums is a thing of the past. Funny you should mention Manyoo as an example. Considering there are usually 70k+ in there it always strikes me as being a bit of a library. From my recent experience at FP the singing has been hijacked by a certain cadre about whom the words imagination and humour do not spring to mind. Still livelier than the Sahara though.

Hi Ash...Too much Ner Ner music for me emitting from the FE...Times have changed and to be honest I cant see much changing sadly... The North Stand Choir sing a good tune when invited to by the FE, but I soo wish that Corky etc in the South Stand would awake from their slumbering and sing along too ...

The singing and the atmosphere brought on by it was always one of the things that I looked forwards to on a Saturday afternoon...I really hope that we can get some of our more imaginative fans to come out with some new songs...
