"With Pittodrie earmarked for housing"
I phucking bet it is.
So where exactly at the beach would the new stadium be? I can't read the EE article.
They're speakin aboot the site o' The Doubletree hotel ... 'The Patio' as it's known. Havin gigged there a couple o' times, Ah can tell ye it'll be less badly missed than Cosgrove's effort v der Hun.
No it's not the golf course that is allegedly being proposed by the council. AS NMN says it is the site that covers the DoubleTree hotel, transition extreme and the kids playpark opposite the Beach Ballroom as well as the empty ground where they put up a tent for the circus when it is in town. It would be a big enough site I guess but with little or no onsite parking I would imagine, but that shouldn't be a big issue given parking along the beach and in streets nearby as well as it being within walking distance of the train station and various bus routes.
For me this could be a really good solution and certainly worth a feasability study by Cormack at least. Much as though I have fond memories of 50 years at Pittodrie it is a bit crap now so a brand new stadium (if done properly!!!) in a city centre location just a mile or so from the existing site could just be perfect. Dead handy for those that like to partake in a week shandy before/after the game as well. No doubt a bunch of issues to overcome re planning consent but if the council are pushing it, then presumably that would be somewhat eased. Plod will no doubt object as they will still have to put up with celtic/sevco fans in the town centre instead of sending them off back down the bypass from Kingsford.
It's a yes from me to at least have a good hard look at this.
